2 OWNER 1991 MERCEDES BENZ 420 SEL (ALL) original
Description
Just out of winter storage
The original paint is perfect, professionally polished, and there is no rust anywhere. The original leather and wood are perfect as is the original dash cover and the original carpet.
All electrical items operate perfectly. All windows go up and down, the vacuum operated door locks work, the headlight wipers, sun roof, antenna, lights, radio, all gauges and electric seats are also fully functional. The climate control operates flawlessly. Idle is 700 - which is as it should be. The wood specifically around the shift gate is notorious on these cars for looking distressed, this one is perfect without any cracking or deterioration. This car has the optional rear window shade - it goes up and down as it should.
Completed repairs:
A new A/C compressor, seals and dryer were installed last year along with a full evacuation and recharge. The fuel system has had a number of repairs made over the last 5 years including both fuel pumps, all 8 injectors, the electrical box on the side of the fuel distributor as well as a new fuel pressure regulator. The timing chain, all timing chain guides, chain tensioner and many ancillary pieces were replaced immediately after getting the car as one of the guides was loose along with the radiator and coolant hoses.
New idle control valve about 3 years ago along with the idle control moduleNew cruise control module installed immediately after getting the car
The spark plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, coil and spark plugs were done around the same time.New front shocks and repacked wheel bearings were done around 2 years ago.
The hood pad is new
Coolant is the correct G-05 Mercedes fluidPower steering hoses, filter and fluid last summer along with V belts
Transmission fluid is synthetic Mobil 1 ATF and was completed last spring along with Royal purple differential fluidBrake fluid is Pentosin Dot 4 and was replaced 2 years ago
I use Royal Purple 10/40 Synthetic and do the filter/fluid every 3K miles - There is approximately 2500 miles left on the current change
Guide rod bushings and ball joints were replaced right after getting the carMercedes branded battery - I think I replaced it last spring
There are likely other things, nonetheless the car received the repairs it required.
The wheels are very rare period correct Centra 16" Mercedes wheels with no nicks scratches or curb rash - They are in exceptional condition. They are fitted with Michelin tires that have about 90% tread remaining.
Steering is tight with no wandering or noises. No cosmetic issues, no electrical issues, no starting issues, no fueling issues. Gets 17-20 mpg on the highway. The car runs, drives, stops, starts, steers as it should. I am not selling because the car needs anything - I am downsizing my car collection.
There are no issues with this car. I was a Mercedes certified mechanic and ran an independent European repair/restoration shop for a number of years until last year, so all repairs were carried out by me in my shop until last spring - I am currently retired.
I got this car from the original owner. The original owner bought the car new in California then moved to Texas where I bought the car about 5 years ago - My father liked the car when I got it back here so it was his to use for most of the last 5 years since I had enough cars to keep myself occupied. The car was transferred between my father and myself last year which should show up on the carfax.
You can come and drive this car home to wherever you live in the USA. I am able to pick a buyer up at the airport should you want to drive it home.
