The market on the 450SL and other R107 body style Mercedes SL's is absolutely red hot right now and this example is priced to sell. Low mileage and original examples of the R107 Mercedes SL exceptionally difficult to find and draw a huge premium in the current market. Ninety-four thousand miles on Mercedes from this era is low. These cars were built like tanks and virtually run forever if properly maintained. The low original mileage is verified not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title, pictured above, showing the mileage as "Actual." This 450SL looks outstanding, runs great, and is and awesome driver. It comes with both the soft-top and auxiliary hardtop. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Mercedes that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come. I have personally driven this car and put about twenty miles on it. During that time it was totally reliable with no issues and a pleasure to drive. Please peruse all of the photos, video, and other information to get a true sense of clean and nice this 450SL really is. As a side note, this Mercedes is not a dealer auction vehicle. We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our classics come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did. We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each picture. We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase. If you have a question about the 450SL, just give us a call. ExteriorThe exterior is in nice driver condition. As one can see in the photos, the paint has a brilliant gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. Both doors open and shut nicely; it has that solid Mercedes touch and feels like a vault door closing. The convertible soft-top is in wonderful condition. The rear windows in the soft-top are perfectly clean with no scratches, yellowing, or fogginess. The wheels are in great shape with a nice finish. The tires have about 90% tread left. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. As one would expect from a paintjob with many years on it there are some very small blemishes around that are too tiny so show up in the photos, but nothing that is really noticeable from about five or ten feet away. As one can see in the many photos of the underside, this 450SL is very clean underneath. We have also included specific photos of the rockers, lower front and rear quarter panels, and other areas on the car most prone to rust to show how nice it looks. InteriorThe Tan Leather interior of the 450SL looks fantastic. The seats are in excellent condition and look just in person as they do in the photos. Please note that these appear to be the original seats and skins, not some cheap aftermarket covers or replacements. The carpet looks nice with no rips or holes. All of the gauges faces are crisp and clean and the lenses are clear. The dash is in good condition with no fading or sun damage. The original door panels look great with no cracks or splits, and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The wood trim looks nice overall with no fading or delimitation; as is common there is a small crack by the hazard light switch, which is visible in the photos. The trunk is also clean and comes with the original jack and spare tire. This car has never been smoked in and there is no aroma of cigarettes what so ever. The excellent condition of this original interior is a huge testament to the meticulous care and attention this Mercedes has received throughout its life. MechanicalThis 450SL appears to be in very nice mechanical condition. As stated above I have personally put about 35 miles on this Mercedes and during that time it was totally reliable and pleasure to drive. The engine starts right away every time, idles smooth, and runs great. It is an exceptional driver that feels nice on the road and at highway speeds. In the video one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to a stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that it runs great, there are no vibrations, and the car performs quite nice overall. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. There is no blue smoke when starting or driving the car. It runs cool and does not overheat. The gauge shows that the engine makes great oil pressure. Also, the engine bay is clean, nicely detailed, and correct as one can see from the photos. Please note in the video that the warning lights work properly. They light up when the key is first turned on and then go off when the engine is started. There are no "check engine" or other warning lights that stay on. The horn works as do all the exterior lights, interior lights, indicators, and wipers. All of the gauges work and even the clock runs. The fan will run on the defrost setting. The a/c works and blows cold. This Mercedes has plenty of power with the 4.5 liter V8 engine. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the top down on a beautiful day. Overall ConditionOverall, this 1980 450SL is in excellent condition and is a true bargain at our asking price. The market on for the R107 body style SL Mercedes is very strong right now. This Mercedes is a great value and will only appreciate over time. Someone could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort. Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions. Photos |
