Description
This 1977 Mercedes-Benz 6.9 was purchased new at Star Motorcars in Houston by a doctor who kept it for 14 years (at a Rolls Royce price) before it was sold to a dealer and acquired by the seller 27 years ago. One of 462 examples sold as part of the models first year offering in the North American market. The car is powered by a 6,834cc M100 V8 paired with a three speed automatic transmission. Work done in November 2018 included: oil change, transmission service, hydraulic fluid flush, new spark plugs, fuel system maintenance and front brake component replacement. Finished in gray blue metallic over dark blue leather this W116 is now offered with service records dating back to the sellers purchase, owners manuals, service manuals and a clean Wyoming title in the sellers name. The exterior is finished and gray blue metallic (906). The only rust present is at the corner of the power sunroof exterior and under the rear bumper strip. Windshield and rear window seals need replacement although they do not leak. The 6.9 model featured hydro-pneumatic self leveling suspension system which received a hydraulic fluid flush in November 2018 with a subsequent check for leaks. The suspension stays up and operates properly. Factory 14 inch Bundt alloys have 215x70 Cooper tires with less than 200 miles. The US market sealed beam headlights and bumpers remain. All is original on this car including the Mexico cassette Radio. Dark blue leather upholstery is complemented by matching carpeting and custom floor mats. The M 100 engine has a dry oil sump to ensure constant flow of oil despite motion of the car body. A new servo for the automatic climate control was installed also in November 2018. The 160 mi./hours six digit odometer was installed at 49,000 miles in place of the original 170 mph unit. Reason for new unit is unknown. Currently mileage reads 53,000 and is said to reflect miles covered since the odometer change for reported total of 102,000 miles of which the seller has driven approximately 17.
