Description

This car was sold new in Florida and has never been registered elsewhere. The 70,850 miles are original true miles. There is no rust or oil leaks and the car is mechanically sound. The AC system has been updated to 134a and it blows cold. It has a brand new soft top and comes with a matching hard top although the color appears to be a slightly darker shade of red (please see photo).

It has a set of almost brand new Continental Tires ($600) and a never used full size spare tire mounted on a matching Mercedes alloy wheel. The value for this year and model Mercedes has bottomed out and will now only appreciate in value.

This particular year also has several advantages, it is a true Mercedes before the Chrysler merger in 1998, and it has the Bosch KE-Jetronic fuel injection system that produced more horsepower then its 1993 descendent the Bosch LH-Jetronic fuel injection, this system also lacks the dreaded defective wiring harness that has a tendency to self disintegrate.

The car also does not have the ADS adaptive damping suspension option, which was standard on the 600SL but was also an option on the 500S, the ADS system turned out to be a maintenance nightmare.

The car is a complete repaint and has several flaws that I refer to in the photos as scratches but I believe were actually caused by some type of caustic chemical coming into contact with the paint perhaps brake or hydraulic fluid.

The power top will operate but I’ve unplugged the electrical connection to the pump because several of the 12 cylinders are leaking hydraulic fluid.A complete set of 12 rebuilt cylinders can be purchased at https://www.tophydraulics.com/r129-sl-97-02/25-full-set-r129.html for $550, however, I find that operating the top manually is fairly simple and takes just a few minutes to raise or lower, so, it’s up to the new owner to decide but for me it was no big deal.Theonlyother issue is thepassenger power seat is nonoperational.

I’m listing this as a true no reserve auction with no minimum and I will not remove it early the last bider will own it. The final transaction must be in person, cash only. However, if you’re unable to travel to Florida’s Tampa Bay area, I will ship it, but only if you pay for and schedule an auto transport company to pickup and pay in advance for the car in full by bank wire transfer. Good luck bidding. If you happen to have a particular question that I haven’t already answered please, contact me at 727-537-9682 by either text or voice.
