1958 Mercedes 190 SL
I'm the 4th owner of this car, since 2011. The previous owner, a Key Biscayne's (FL) resident, had the car since 1988. I do not have history prior to this point.
Once I decided to submit the 190 SL to a "nut and bolt" restoration, first step was disassembling the car in order to clearly state his condition. The car was diagnosed with some rust areas on both rear fenders, trunk section, spare tire section and battery tray area. Next step was sending the car to a long and meticulous media blasting process, which took over a week. Doors, trunk lid and hood had to be stripped "by hand" due to their aluminium made feature.
After the car was entirely stripped down to bare metal, we started the metal fixing process itself. In order to replace the rusted areas, we did used just "Mercedes-Benz classic center" parts. Replacing metal panels took over two months and after that, car was painting prepped, by professional hand sanding work, for over100 hours. Finished the throughly prepping process, the car was painted original 1958 white, color code DB050, by a renowned German painter established in North Florida. Painting process started with epoxy primer, seam sealer and finished with high grade PPG paint. Result was a perfect "bondo free" smooth body.
Many interior parts were already redone, but there are still some parts to be properly finished. All brakes, suspension, sub-frame, Differential and miscellaneous parts were carefully media blasted, and are ready to be installed back to the car.
The original engine has proper compression but needs to be cosmetically finished. The carbs are not the original Solexes. Car has currently Webers installed.
The whole car is "matching numbers" (gearbox, engine and all numbered parts).
The car comes with all original manuals.
Original, glove compartment installed, clock is in place.
Seats, door panels, carpet and dash need to be redone to match body's level.
Original interior is black.
Both hard and soft tops are present. They need restoration, but are both matching numbers.
Original Becker Europa radio in beautiful condition.
A brand new wiring harness, made in England using the car's data card, is included for the new owner, even though the old one is in good shape and available. All suspension bushes (not installed) are new and ready to be installed.
If you are looking for a solid body, no rust, no bondo, no surprises, fully complete 190 SL, to finish as you wish, you should consider this car.
Requests for additional pictures, as well as pictures from the restoration process, are more than welcome!
Thank you for your interest.
