Description

This is a beautiful 1975 Mercedes Benz 450 SL Hardtop convertible. It has the powerful and smooth 4.5L V8, and a 3 speed automatic transmission. It has 108,300 miles, and is excellent mechanical condition. I bought it from an elderly gentleman in CT who bought it for his wife more than a decade earlier. She drove it about 2x/summer, so he wanted the garage space. It was store inside when he owned it, and it’s been stored inside since I’ve owned it.

I had an import motor car specialist go through it all winter. I paid him about $5500 to do the following:

  • ·Remove and repair one of the computers and diverters that controls the fuel injection
  • ·Install new fuel feed and return hoses
  • ·Pull dash and replace dash lights and turn signal indicator bulbs
  • ·Repair a power steering pump leak with new seal kit and pump
  • ·Replace transmission shifter bushings; adjust transmission linkage
  • ·New subframe bushings
  • ·New front control arm bushings
  • ·Tune up with new plugs
  • ·Replace fuel coolant sensor
  • ·Remove steering box and install new steering flex joint
  • ·New windshield washer pump
  • ·New Kick down bushing
  • ·Pack front wheel bearings
  • ·Install two remanufactured front calipers
  • ·New front pads and rotors
  • ·Pull, clean repair and rebuild speedometer head and reinstall
  • ·New battery
  • ·New transmission mount

I have all the receipts for this work, and they go with the car. It has AC, but I don’t use it, so it may need charged. It’s a summer day driver, so I never turn on the AC or the heat. I simply take the top off and take it for a drive.

I’m sure I’m missing a thing or two, but this car now runs fantastically. All the little odds and ends that drove me crazy were addressed by him over the winter. It’s a dream to drive, and has great power. It’s an excellent driver, and a fun little cruiser.

I’m only selling because I currently have 9 vehicles, and I just bought a 1969 Chevelle, and I’m turning my attention to that car.

It has the hard top and soft top, both of which are in excellent condition. I have a stand for the hard top, and you are welcome to that as well, although I’ll probably have to break it down and put it in the trunk for shipping.

The interior is in excellent shape and has held up very well. It’s very comfortable and looks great. The power windows work great as do all the lights and signals.

The paint is in good condition, but it’s not show quality. It’s a driver quality paint job (meaning it looks good going down the road but has a few imperfections). There are no major dents or dings, and no rust on this car. I think the red was a repaint somewhere in it’s past, but since it’s a decent job (not great, but ok), I never had any incentive to redo it, as it looks fine running down the road. I get lots of looks and thumbs up every time I drive it.

I won’t be too sad if it doesn’t sell, as every time I drive it, it just makes me smile. However, when I think of hopping in a convertible, I almost always end up taking my 550 HP Jaguar convertible, so this one just doesn’t get driven.

So make me a fair offer, and take it home. If you want to lowball me, take a chance on one of the $7000 versions, and then hope you don’t have to spend $10,000 on repairs to make it as solid as this one.

I have a clear, clean PA title in hand. Remember, this car is nearly 42 model years old. It’s not a new car, but it’s a great runner and a good looker, and will provide years of fun.

If you want a particular photo, let me know, and I'll send it to you.

$1,000 deposit via Paypal. Remainder in cash or certified funds. Car doesn’t leave until all the funds are clear, but I will provide you a bill of sale and a copy of the title, and once the funds clear I’ll overnight you all the paperwork.

I’ll work with your shipper in needed. I love cars, so I buy and sell about 6-10 per year, so I’m happy to work with you on shipping it. I can store it for a couple of weeks after the funds clear if that helps.
