The Mercedes-Benz W180 Chassis was produced from 1956 through 1959. It featured the ponton body style that was popular throughout the 1950s with Mercedes-Benz. These cars featured a single overhead cam inline six cylinder engine that produced 99 horsepower to start, and 105 horsepower in later model years. The chassis was on overall success, with over 85,000 units being produced throughout its life span, 55,279 of those being the 4 door saloon model. In these early years is when Mercedes cemented themselves as a manufacturer of well built robust vehicles, and it shows with how well these cars hold up.

Presented here is a 1959 built 220s saloon, still sporting its original finishes. The vehicle was bought new in 1960 at a Mercedes dealership in Washington state, and has remained with the same family ever since. Incredibly the car still sports it's original paint, interior and everything else and it has held up remarkably well. While the original paint is a bit tired in places, it is still completely intact and acceptable for an all original vehicle. Inside the read leather seats have also fared quite nicely. Covers were kept on the seats for many years, and the car was always stored indoors so the UV rays from the sun never got the chance to damage the upholstery. The deep red leather shows some wear and tear on the front two seats, to be expected from an unrestored 60 year old seat. The back seats appear to have been seldom used as it is still in extremely excellent overall condition. Almost all of the wood in the interior is in absolutely beautiful shape, save for a bit of cracking in the finish on the dashboard. Inside the trunk it appears there has been very little use. The rubber trunk mat is still in place and in surprisingly nice condition. Even more surprising is the amazing condition of the floor underneath it, with paint that is still shining like new. The chassis on this car is very dry, it is obvious this car was well cared for and not driven in bad weather for essentially its whole life.

This car has recently underwent some major servicing in order to ensure it is driving nicely and reliably. The entire braking hydraulic system has been rebuilt and overhauled, and the pedal modulates wonderfully and the brakes do not make any unfavorable noises. Many gaskets were replaced on the engine to stop a few leaks, and the entire fuel system has been gone through as well, from the fuel tank to the carburetor. The ignition system has also been completely redone so the car will run like a top. The inline six fires to life very easily with the push of the starter button, and immediately idles quite nicely. The four speed column shifter has had the linkage adjusted recently so it slots into every gear very easily and nicely. The clutch engagement is very nice as well, making the car a simple and pleasant car to drive. The ride quality is very decent, with all four corners porting recently replaced bilstein dampers. It is very rare to find an all original example of any vehicle of this vintage, and even more rare to find one that runs and drives quite as nice as this.
