This RoW 1991 Mercedes-Benz 500SL AMG is one of about 50 pre-merger AMG units made, before Daimler Benz took over of AMG.

With very low miles and outstanding fully serviced condition, this Affalterbach Euro R129 masterpiece is a stunning Roadster to be added to any Mercedes-Benz collection.

Driving the car, displays a performance delivery well beyond the expected anemic stock pre facelift R129 M119 engine and transmission combination.

Acceleration and launch are swift and impressive, consistent to an AMG tuned car. While on cornering and turning, the car is precise and a true high-performance sports car. The body roll is marginal, and you can easily bring it to torque steer around the bends. While a stock R129 behaves more like Dr. Jekyll, this AMG work of art is a true Mr. Hyde.

The story of this particular 500SL AMG powered R129 is that it was a unique special order, that came from the Jordanian Royal Family in Amman, Jordan.

The specific order originated with Mercedes Benz Commission No. 0 0 843 10114 which assigned assembly to their Bremen, Germany facility.

The order came in the Summer of 1990 with completion taking place on September 2nd, 1990. The original Mercedes Factory Assembly Records provide fantastic detail on the special options incorporated into this vehicle’s assembly.

After competition at the Mercedes-Benz factory in Bremen, this car was shipped to AMG’s facilities in Affalterbach, for conversion to AMG specifications. These modifications included increasing the bore and stroke with special AMG Rods, pistons and hardened steel crankshaft which increased displacement from the stock 5.0-liters to 5,955cc (6.0-liters.) The modifications increased engine output to an astounding high performance.

Additional modifications performed in Affalterbach include:

-300 Km/h AMG Speedometer and odometer

-AMG Aero

-AMG Aero 18-inch wheels (Hammer)

-AMG tuned suspension

-AMG exhaust
