1984 Mercedes 380SL Euro Convertible with Hardtop 380 SL
Description
You are bidding on a very special 380 SL Mercedes Wire Wheel Euro. In 2015, one of our Museum patrons asked that we provide a great quality 380 SL for her father to drive, as he had reached 70 years of age and never had the success to own a convertible, this being his favorite model. She asked that we assure her the vehicle was mechanically sound so that her father would not have any troubles using the vehicle.
We procured the low mileage car, around 60,000 miles for a car that was over 35 years old, then want through the entire vehicle for any mechanical defects. We replaced the worn suspension components, braking components, rebuilt the transmission and drive shaft, tuned the engine, replaces shifter bushings and replaced the A/C system and put new tires on it to make sure the vehicle was in top shape for our patron. We upgraded the headlight bulbs in the Euro headlights, installed new floor mats and also purchased several hundred dollars worth of components that are yet to be installed but are included in the sale.
Here is a summary of the vehicle expenses:
01/2018 $255308/2018 $620208/2018 $45909/2018 Vehicle delivered to patron10/2018 $2658= $11,872
This amount does not include the countless hours our all volunteer staff spent working on the vehicle to prep it for delivery. All maintenance records will be included with the sale.
Unfortunately, only months after delivery, the happy father was diagnosed with brain cancer, and died about a month later.
The car has sat in our storage facility since December 2018, and only recently has the patron asked us to sell the car for her, as she has fond memories of her father driving it but does not want to keep it.
The wire wheels alone are worth more than $3500 on eBay if you can find them, and the hard top is worth at lease $1500 as well. The Euro lights are probably$1000 or more if you can find them. That is $6000 worth of options not available on most 380SL listings, so the price literallyreflects the cost of the repairs and the value of the upgrades on this car.
The vehicle is not perfect, nor is it a Concour Car. It is a clean drivers car, with paint imperfections, scratches, some surface rust in areas and has more than 35 years of aging on it. That being said, it is one of the most sound operating 380SL in the country.
Your purchase helps to support our Not for Profit Museum, as the patron has agreed to allow us to keep all proceeds of this sale! Vehicle is located in Jacksonville, FL.
