1987 Mercedes 560 SL
When thinking of iconic sports cars throughout the decades, the Porsche 911, Corvette, BMW M3, Nissan Z, and Jaguar E-Type come to mind. If you were to take a poll on the top 10 most iconic sports cars of all time, you’d also find the Mercedes-Benz SL on many lists. Introduced in 1954 as Mercedes’s entry into the booming state-side sports car market, the SL was intended to be a toned-down version of their 300 SLR racecar. The original 300 SL wasn’t only a spectacular grand-touring car to drive, it also was stunning to look at especially with its signature Gullwing doors. A few years later, a roadster version was unveiled along with its little brother, the 190 SL. After the first generation of SL cars came to a close in 1963, the car had made a massive impact and was here to stay.
Fast-forward to 1971, and Mercedes reveals the third generation SL, the R107. This new SL came with striking sharp bodylines, more powerful engines, and enhanced comfort amenities. The R107 SL Roadster provided the ultimate grand touring experience with elegant styling, silky smooth power, and a tight but comfortable handling package. As the thrid generation SL progressed, the car continued to improve in all areas. 15 years into the R107 production, Mercedes introduces the final and best version yet, the 560 SL. Built from 1986 until 1989, the 560 SL was a fitting send-off to one of Mercedes longest standing and most successful models of all time. a 5.6-liter V8 producing 227 horsepower and 279 lb/ft of torque, the 560 SL moved down the road at a brisk pace. Add a gorgeous color combination of Diamond Blue Metallic of Blue leather, this car checks all of the right boxes.
It is believed the vehicle was originally driven by the owner of the selling dealer and delivered to it's second owner in 1992 with 12k miles. Paint work is clean and and doesn't show signs of any accident history also reported by the clean Carfax vehicle history report.
