Description

Let's be real. This car is far from perfect. But it is has tons of potential and a ton to work with....I've driven this car as my DAILY COMMUTER for the last 3 years. And while I love the car very much and can't find anything that feels like it; I've decided to let this go to focus on some other car projects. I want this car to go to someone with the drive, love, motivation, and resources to keep it running and make it run and last for another 50 years...This is my 1971 Mercedes-Benz 250 Sedan (W114) with the M114 6 Cylinder Petrol Motor. The car is fed fuel and air through two beautiful and recently rebuilt twin barrel Zenith INAT 38/40 Carbs. The mileage is approximately 88,000 with no rollover. The car is completely intact with beautiful European double chrome bumpers up front and a single chrome bumper in the rear. The interior (save for the aftermarket stereo and gaudy rear parcel shelf speakers!) is completely intact and original with beautiful MB-TEX leatherette seats and the original factory carpeting and floor mats. The Dash is relatively in good condition with varnish slightly lifting from the timber and a dash speaker grille requiring a repair and a few rather tiny and perfectly placed cracks on the dash. The chrome throughout the car is sparkling. All the windows and doors work. Its a simple, well thought out sedan. Let's talk turkey now. This car needs work:THE BAD (Mechanical)- Leaks anti freeze from repaired radiator near drain plug (I top off and check the level daily and refill as needed) - Leaks oil from pretty much any orifice it can find (I top off/ check the oil daily with Kendall Competition 20W50 High Zinc- Leaks Transmission fluid. (I believe there is a seal missing I check and top off daily with DEX/MERC High Mileage) - Burns oil from a loose valve guide on cylinder 5 which also leads to loss of compression - Cylinders 1,2,3,4,6 175 PSI. Cylinder 5 125 PSI- The cam is slightly worn on cylinder 5 exhaust lobe and could use a machining or replacement- Exhaust system needs attention and repair (muffler and pipes are new, but need re-welding or replacement) THE GOOD (Mechanical)- Rebuilt Top end 4 years ago (I have piles of paperwork) - Driven Daily in the city and looked after- Suspension is INCREDIBLE and this car rides smooth and is nimble and responsive. One of the best handing Mercedes for sure- All fluids always refilled - Timing Chain recently checked and is in excellent shape as is the sprocket- Valves adjusted religiously and carefully- Brakes are excellent - Power steering is fantastic- Carbs recently rebuilt and synched. - New brakes and pads in last 4 years (perhaps 2000 miles on them)- Recent suspension work including shocks and links- Rear end guibo replaced and gear oil drained and replaced within last 3 yearsTHE BAD (cosmetic / body) - There is rust. Rust you would expect on a 50 year old car. But none of it is too awful- There is a small dent in the passenger side door from me being an idiot and hitting a pole while parking- Some of the headlight lenses have small cracks - Small bits of chrome have small dents - The window seals need replacing- The headliner is original and intact, but the rear of the headliner needs some re-gluing- Bonnet (hood) has small dents from morons thinking my car is in a photoshoot all the time (bastards)THE GOOD (cosmetic / body)- Beautiful all original interior- Sexy humungous steering wheel- Original carpeting in great condition- All hubcaps, bumpers, chrome intact- New tires within last 3 years (perhaps 2000 miles on them)- A beautiful car with tons of potential You could, by all means drive this car away - just make sure to bring oil and coolant and transmission fluid with you to top it off. I would recommend a flat bed if you're going more than 100 miles just to be safe. The car is totally drive-able as is, but as you can tell from my description it needs work. If you kill it by driving it 80MPH home without checking the fluids that is of course your problem. The vehicle is sold with two sets of keys AS IS - WHERE IS with no warranty expressed or implied. I will include all of my spare parts and all paperwork along with a clean title and a tear in my eye to say goodbye to my sweet Merc 250I love this car so much and I will miss it. I know it will be difficult to find another at a reasonable price. If you are loking for a classic Mercedes and have the know how - I believe this is the right car for you. GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY BIDDING!!!!
