Description

Sadly selling my 1973 Mercedes 280c. VIN # 114.073-12-002784 W114 chassis. Automatic, power steering, power brakes. This is the pillarless coupe with an M110 engine, known to be bulletproof by Mercedes enthusiasts. Odometer reads 56828 but has not worked since I'vehad it so actual mileage is unknown. Even on the coldest Chicago day car starts and once warmed up runs like a beast. Easily does 90+ on highway. Stops on a dime.No noticeable leaks from engine, no knocks or strange sounds.I have owned the car almost 4years. Talk about a head turner, can't drive anywhere without people honking and waving. This is a true survivor. 43 years ago bought in Milwaukee and been a Midwest car ever since.

3 years agoI installeda Blaupunkt Los Angeles radio and cd player with4 new speakers

In the last six months:

-Brake pads and rotors all 4 wheels

-Replaced fuel pump gasket

-Replaced steering shock

-Replaced fuel pump and alternator

-New battery

-Carburetor has been replaced and tuned

-All coolant hoses (8) replaced

-Radiator leak repaired

-Rear links replaced

Windshield washer foot pump works (pretty rare) as do the wipers on all speeds.

Had the original bosch horns (2) rebuilt 3 years ago.

All interior and exterior lights work, which is rare.

Heat and defrost work great including blower motor which is also a rarity

Rear defrost works (also rare)

Car has original AC compressor but it has been bypassed (by previous owner, I imagine because it wasn't working but I'm told they can be rebuilt relatively easily.

Power windows all work, drivers side needs slight tweaking.

Tires are steel belted radial with probably 90% treadlife left.

Original color matched hubcaps in great shape

Good spare in trunk

Car antenna extends and retracts (when radio is turned on/off)

Have original owners manual and a pile of service receipts from the 80's

I have been diligent about changing oil

Headliner is in great shape and original camel MB tex is invery goodcondition

Car has original Mercedes floor mats, drivers side isnot in the bestcondition.

Seats were stuffed with horsehair pads which have broken down over the years (not uncommon) over the years so seats are more springy than supportive but still very comfortable. easy fix at your local upholstery shop.

Body is in really decent shape, original paint. She has suffered her bumps and bruises. Passenger side door has a dent and scratch that extends slightly to rear quarter panel (zoom in on photo). Small dent on rear passenger side (under the trunk)that messed up the chrome slightly, completely fixable by someone who knows what they're doing. Couple small spider webs in paint on hood. scratch over drivers side rear wheel well (right where wheel well flares slightly). Some paint bubbling in a few different spots. A couple of small scratches and dents here and there but overall car shows very nice. Not a show car, just a really fun cruiser. Car is in need of passenger side floor pan(see photo)(readily available prefab on internet) and trunk pan (may have to be fabricatedas I have not seen them). I was planning on replacing drivers side pan as well, solid in the front but a small hole in rear. Left her in the driveway during a rain shower and noticed a small puddle on drivers side floor, can probably use new window seals.Paint is in overall good condition, not perfect. Faded on roof and trunk, shines up nice with a good rubbing and waxing. Some clear coat peeling on roof just over passenger side rear window. Windshield has 2 small cracks that haven't grown at all in last 4 years (been meaning to get it to safelite to repair). Passenger side door lock button has broken off, door locks with ket from outside. trunk locks as it should. drivers side locks from inside but not with key, hasn't bothered me so haven't looked into it.

Overall this is a solid Midwestern survivor, almost all original. I have taken her as far as I can (wife doesn't like the time and money i spend on her and I like wife so...)and with a little tlc she will provide someone with another 43 years of fun. Pretty sure that covers all the good and not so good.
