Description

I have owned this 1963 Mercedes 220SEb Cabriolet for 28 years. Due to my age and health issues it is time to let my baby go to a caring home.It contains tons of originality and deserves the description of survivor. I have maintained it with Mercedes or quality replacement parts as necessary. Wherever possible, components were rebuilt or refurbished rather than replaced. It is an original USA model and not an imported foreign model. Almost all USA versions have an automatic transmission, and almost all foreign models have the manual transmission. Manual transmission cars just would not sell in the luxury USA market. This car has timeless styling and is listed as a classic in national auto clubs. I think the 1963 model is one of the most desirable as it has a wood instrument cluster and does not have the detracting side markers.

When I bought the car in 1989 it needed new leather seat upholstery and a new top. It still needs those items, and now the chrome bumpers and grille need chroming or replacement. Or, you can park it in a garage and only drive it on nice days like I did.

The car runs, stops and drives great. The steering has a little play in it, a maintenance item that I just did not get around to correcting as it is easily drivable as-is. Original equipment includes power steering, power brakes and fuel injection. Everything works, with the exception of the gear selection indicator, the clock, and the fuel gauge (needs a new needle). Original 60’s Becker AM-FM pushbutton radio works with great sound. Original wood veneer on dash all matches.

There is one hole in the floor pan under the passenger rear seat which allows any water penetration around the top (during washing) to drain. The rest of the floor and trunk are original and solid. Frame is solid and there are no body squeaks or clunks.

This is a driver quality car and you need not be afraid to drive it. Easy restoration as the car has few (if any) modifications. Not currently a National show quality car, almost everyone that sees it cannot resist telling me that I have a great car. Reserve is less than NADA average price of $53,000 but I believe the car is above average, and with replacement items shown below would be way above average. Please do not bid unless you have funds available within the 7 day requirement.

The car had air conditioning when I bought it but was not working. I removed the compressor and under dash component to clean up the appearance. The removed components including the wiring, switches and brackets are included in the sale, along with another under dash component that I picked up in a junkyard years ago just in case.
