Pristine 1988 Mercedes Benz 560sl R107 Roadster Convertible - **Think Spring**
Description
I actually sold this car in October 2016. The very anxiousbuyer paid a deposit and then just disappeared. I tried very hard to contact and save the car for him and ive waited 3 months hoping he would reappear, but no response. I sincerely hope he is OK. Unfortunately i still need to sell to make room for other desired cars of mine. I am collector of very special automobiles as this certainly is one but im limited on indoor space.
When i was a young man of 17 my parents purchased a brand new one in the 80's and i had the great pleasure of driving it home from the dealership. The seed was planted and 30 years later i scoured the world looking for a perfect example so i could relive that experience.
I found this one in a northern suburb of Chicago. Owned by a very elderly man than loved the R107 as I and babied it from new. He passed away with it still under cover in his garage and his son reluctantly sold it not really knowing how special these cars are. If you are reading this, you probably know.
To me, this is a timeless car and this color combination (earth tones) really brings out the classic lines. Built like a tank and handles like a solid roadster. Doors, trunk and hood close with a solid thump and as i write this im wondering why im selling.
I've owned "lolito" a few years now and have had it serviced annually but it does need the AC updated to the new Freon. Also the light bulb in the 3rd brake light is out.
Its not a 35K 560SL, because there are a few storage nicks and scratches. Some are on the chrome bumper skirts, one shallow door ding, some light scratches on the matching hardtop and one near where the hardtop locks into the body. The center arm rest has some creasing along with the drivers leather bolster. All minor stuff but does lower its asking price. Plus the AC needing the upgrade.
The paint is excellent, the leather is excellent, the dash and the wood is excellent and runs very very well. Drives straight and brakes straight and is as solid of a car you'll ever drive. I own a 2015 Mercedes and it doesn'tfeel the same as this roadster in build quality. Its extremely quiet, has that dog whistle sound while idling and its just amazing. It will be missed.
It is currently in my heated storage warehouse under its cover. It has a brand new battery, hardtop currently installed and ready to go since October.
I paid a professional photographer to take few dozen photos. I have them if you want to see them and would like them if you purchase the car.
** I LOVE Euro lights on these cars and i searched far and wide for a NOS set. I have them and i gladly paid $2000 for them. IF it sells via Buy IT Now, i'll throw them in with the car (they are currently in the BOSCH boxes in the trunk). Or i will sell the for $2000 to the high bidder that wants them.**
