1968 Mercury Cougar 427 GTE tribute.
A beautiful rust free and laser straight Cardinal Red re-body and perfect black interior, this car is difficult to tell from an original GTE. The paint job is excellent, first quality. A couple rock chips, but not serious.
The car has never been rusted or wrecked hard. The hidden VIN numbers on the front inner fenders do not match the VIN on the dash and the VIN on the door tag. The car has a set of XR7-S tail lamps and XR7-G front valance and fog lamps. An original GT-E BF Goodrich FR70-14 spare tire and wheel in the trunk, a very rare item. The AM / FM Stereo, Power Steering, turn signals, and the radio works great. Headlights open and close perfectly. The RH front fender is an aftermarket replacement. The air cleaner is a reproduction and the rear valance was notched out to clear the reproduction exhaust. The engine, transmission and rear end work fine. The 427 is powerful, fast, reliable, and runs cool in our hot Texas summers and the C6automatic shifts hard under acceleration. The engine block date code is 4K3 which decodes to 1964, October 3. The intake is a 1964 - 1965 Medium Riser unit. The carburetor is a Holley Street Avenger 750. An original GT-E BF Goodrich FR70-14 spare tire and wheel in the trunk, a very rare item. The rear axle center section appears to be the correct one for a GT-E. The rear axle housing is dated as a 1967. Drive this car and you are put into a time capsule. It runs, drives, and feels like new. When the doors, trunk, or hood close, the solid sound takes you back to 1968. Having this Cougar gives you all the looks, styling, performance and prestige of a six figure GTE at less than half the price.
Guaranteed not to be a disappointment.
