1955 Mercury Custom Series
Description
This great old Mercury sat in a shed in Colorado for about 10 years before I bought it in 2015. I brought the engine back to life with lots of love, time, and oil. It runs great. The overdrive works as it should. It has Y block V8.The engine has a spin on oil filter and cartridge air cleaner, so must be few years newer than 1955 and would be a 312, I think.I have replaced the fuel pump and the accelerator pump in the Holley 4 barrel carb.
The two door post was made only in the Custom series in 1955. These are one of the rarest of 1955 Mercuries. It has the original 6 volt positive ground system.
I found receipts in the car for over $6000 spent in 2005, just before the car was parked.
Good: Body not beat up - very straight
Engine runs beautifully
Overdrive works well
The brakes and emergency brake work well.
Tires have less than 300 miles on them (New in 2005 but haven't been in the sun)I have the body emblems and lettering that have been removedAll the glass is good
A nice full set of 5 hub caps that appear to be new
All the floors and trunk are good except for drivers side back
Not so good:
Some rust in drivers side rocker
Drivers side back floor has some rust holes. Some bubbling in a couple of places
There is play in the steering
There is some slop in the shift linkage and it sticks occasionallyThe passengers side window doesn't roll up all the way
