1968 Mercury Cougar
The odometer shows 28,376 miles--could be original, but most likely 128,376 miles.Black plate California car.Built at the San Jose plant.Original paint, 390 ci engine with a C-6 automatic transmission, power steering, power disc brakes, air conditioning, chrome Magnum 500 wheels.
The car originally came with a 289 and a C-4 automatic. The 1968 date coded 390 engine and C-6 automatic were swapped into the car, but the swap was never completed. The engine turns over freely with a socket on the crank. The car is not currently running or drivable. Engine accessories, the exhaust and the driveshaft need to be hooked up/installed.Many extra parts are included.
The body is mostly rust free. The original vinyl top and headliner were removed. There are a couple of small spots on the roof. There is a small spot on the quarter panel in front of the passenger rear wheel. The underside is very clean with some surface rust. There is some rust in the rear floors near the tunnel. This is a very clean, mostly rust free car which spent most of its life in California, as evidenced by the nice condition of the body.
The data plate decodes as follows:65A (standard hardtop), color I (lime frost poly), trim 1A (charcoal black crinkle all vinyl), date 08A (January 8, 1968), DSO 52 (Los Angeles), axle 5 (3.00 non locking), trans W (C-4 automatic).
I have owned the car for several years now, and have come to the realization that I will never be able to complete the car, so I have reluctantly decided to give someone else a chance.Shipping will be the buyer’s responsibility, but I will help in whatever manner I can.If you have any questions or would like more pictures, please let me know.
