Description

Here is a very original and hard to find 1966 Cyclone GT with just under 86k original miles. Jamaican Yellow with black interior. S code 390 4V, C6 automatic, 3.25 Equalock rearend (before they called them traction lock) power steering, power brakes, bucket seats, console and factory tach. Appears to be original from paint to hubcaps. Engine is original and still has factory chrome valve covers, oil cap, air cleaner, carb and exhaust manifolds. Not perfect as it is 52 years old and original but still a nice looking driver with some minor patina. It is very hard to find a Cyclone, much less one that is this clean and original and anyone who has owned or ridden in an original car knows how nice they are compared to cars that have been apart or restored.

No Marti reports for 1966 but Data plate is original and reads:

Vin 6J26S50967

Body 63H, Color 8, Trim 86, Date 06A, DSO 54. Axle D, Trans 4

The paint appears to be original but still shines. It is still quite presentable and looks very nice to the casual observer but does of course have flaws. The paint appears thin of the front edge of the hood and the tops of the headlight buckets. There are various chips that have been touched up etc. The body is nice with no rust or evidence or previous rust repair, you will not find a more solid example. Seems are very tight and I don’t even see any bubbles anywhere. No cracks where the roof meets the quarter panel behind the quarter window like almost every Fairlane or Cyclone out there. Doors open and close very nicely. Door jambs are very nice. Body is overall very straight with a few slight waves in the roof and some minor dings in the trunk lid that probably only I notice. Also has one ding in the right rear quarter but it looks like an easy repair for a paintless dent shop. Even the insulation on the underside of the hood is intact. Glass is all good, windshield has been replaced at some point. Bumpers are original, they are both straight, front is pretty nice with some thin spots where water drips and rear looks decent but is showing its age. Rear taillight panel has some pitting. The rest of the trim is in very nice shape. Original Cyclone hubcaps are in excellent condition. Tires look ok but are older and should probably be replaced, they sure spin easy!

The interior is in very nice condition and appears mostly original. The seats, dashpad, console, headliner and carpet are all in very nice condition. The carpet is the only thing that I believe has been replaced on the interiror. Chrome on gauges has typical fading. Factory steering wheel is very nice. Still has working original AM radio. The console is in excellent condition and it has the factory tach mounted on the dash and it works properly. Even the original weatherstripping looks very nice.

The engine is strong with no smoke, knocks or ticks. It is stock except for an aluminum intake manifold and a slightly larger Comp 270H Cam (cam card included). It still has the original Holley carb with tag, exhaust manifolds, chrome valve covers, chrome oil cap, chrome air filter and dipstick. Transmission works well and it drives straight and smooth. Gauges, lights, signals, heater, wiper, interior lights and horn all work. Even the glovebox light and reverse lights still work! Has a little play in the steering which is typical. It has original power drum brakes which are all new and the original power booster has been rebuilt. The brakes still don’t seem to work as well as I would like but that is probably because they are drums. I would upgrade to factory style discs but that is of course up to the buyer.

Real Cyclone GT’s are hard to find and to find one this original and untouched is extremely rare. Overall this is about as clean and original as you will find. It would make an excellent driver and it ready to go as is. The casual observer will think it is in excellent condition and the enthusiast will appreciate its originality. Being over 50 years old it is of course not perfect and has plenty of minor flaws to the trained eye but it can be driven and enjoyed as is. It could use replating of a few items to improve the look a bit if you so desired but I wouldn’t do anything beyond that to the appearance myself.

International buyers are welcome. Car is sold as is where is with no warranty expressed or implied. It is available for inspection by appointment only. I have done my best to describe it accurately but please understand that this is a 50+ year old car that has not been restored. I have sold quite a few cars on ebay and try very hard to describe them accurately and to make sure potential buyers have any information I would want as a buyer. In fairness to all bidders I will not disclose the reserve. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time, however, my intention is to let the auction run its course unless someone hits the buy-it-now. Reserve is much less than buy it now but everybody wants to know what it will take to end the auction so I put a buy it now on there to avoid that question and if this car is exactly what you want and you don’t want to risk losing it then you have an option. Please make sure you have funds available and have gotten permission from your wife, husband, mom or whomever you need permission from before bidding. Full payment must be made within 5 days of auction end and vehicle must be picked up within 21 days of auction end unless prior arrangements are made. Payment by cash or wire transfer only. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer but I will help however I can. Bidders with a feedback rating of 10 or less must contact me prior to bidding or I will cancel your bid.
