1950 Mercury Sport Sedan Suicide Doors Flathead 3spd w/OVERDRIVE Arizona car
Description
Nice, solid, unmolested car. Fires right up and drives, steers and stops well. Best of all it has WORKING OVERDRIVE this is a big deal. If you're new to flatheads, you need to know that they LOVE overdrive if you want to drive them at highway speeds for long periods, as it keeps the RPMs lower (flatheads flow just fine at low revs but their inherent inefficiencies really compound if you wind them up tight). If you're buying a flathead, I suggest you don't buy one without overdrive or a really tall rear end ratio. AND if you're considering a car with correct factory Borg-Warner R10/R11 overdrive (which mine has), ask the seller if the overdrive actually works. These overdrives are excellent, but a lot of people ruin them because they don't know how to operate them (attempting to manually disengage overdrive at the wrong time strips the planetary gears--it's best to just leave it alone and let it work). The overdrive makes the transmission semi-automatic in that in EITHER second OR third gear, you just have to let off the gas a little and it will go into overdrive for that gear. It's like having a five speed transmission. There are plenty of articles about this overdrive out there. They put them on all kinds of cars and trucks.
I've had this car for just about a year, and it's been in my garage the whole time. I've only run two or three tanks of gas through it, so it has sat a lot, but every time I've gone to start it, it's fired up fine. Moving forces sale, but I gotta admit, when I cleaned it up to take the pictures, then drove it around town, I really fell for the car all over again. It's just a nice, unpretentious classic, and I hate to see her go. I'm in Northwest Arizona across the river from Laughlin NV. 3 1/2 hrs from Phoenix, 4 hrs from L.A. and 2 hrs from Las Vegas. I'll do my best to accommodate shipping this car anywhere, but I'd really prefer that potential buyers come see it in person. If you can't come see it PLEASE ask questions before bidding. I need to sell this car as I've sold my house (and garage), so bid often and early, and stand behind your bid...please (and thank you).
