MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to present this stunning Custom Lead-Sled 1940 Mercury chop top with removable hardtop. This is a true one-of-a kind all steel body sled is loaded with tons of style and Kustom touches.

Finished in a brilliant Amethyst Metallic paint with contrasting deep Blue flames, this chop top lead sled shows extremely well. A double line pin-stripe tastefully breaks up the solid color of the body. The iconic front grill is bright and in very good condition. The rear chrome bumper is tight and the finish is exquisite with chrome twin pipes extending from underneath. The custom molded rocker arms with running boards are seamless and enhance the side of the car. All the trim pieces are present and have a great finish. The headlights with period bezels and frenched taillights are in very condition with no hazing or cracks. The padded Ivory removable hardtop has an excellent tight fit and is in is in great condition. No detail too small with this build, including the frenched rear license plate holder and radio antenna.

Inside, this Mercury features a Burgundy Velour with Ivory piping front and rear seats looks great. The custom burgundy door panels, carpet and custom pin-striped frenched dashboard are a continuation of the striking interior of this sedan and look fantastic. The weather-stripping is in very good condition. All the original gauges are well placed and have correct appearance as originally design., however the temperature gauge is inoperable. There is a tasteful addition of the air-ride controls mounted on the steering column. The air conditioning, and original Mercury two spoke steering wheel are in very good condition.

This ’40 Mercury is nicely equipped with a 327 cid Chevrolet V8 engine fed by a Edelbrock 4 barrel carburetor, aluminum intake, custom pin-striped air cleaner and finned valve covers. Power is transferred to the wheels by a TH400 4-speed automatic transmission. Custom duel exhaust with gives this Mercury a deep throaty sound. The drivers assist features include rack & pinion steering and front disc and rear drum brakes. The suspension consist of a Mustang II set-up in the front and an air-ride system in the rear. The 14-inch steel wheels with full chrome trim caps Coker Classic whitewall tires and exterior matching rear fender skirts.

It’s impossible to mention the all-time classic lead sleds and not included Mercury. The builder of this particular “labor of love” did a fantastic job of planning and executing this all steel custom. From the brilliant exterior right down to the frenched radio antenna, everything works together to make this one the most beautiful ’40 Mercs we’ve ever seen!… GET OUT AND DRIVE!
