1962 Mercury Meteor Custom, V8, Runs Strong
Description
Up for sale is my 1962 Mercury Meteor. It is a very uncommon car that shares many parts with a Ford Fairlane, Ford Falcon, Mercury Comet, Mercury Cyclone and even a Ford Mustang, but has a more upscale and unique look, complete with tail fins.
This Meteor is a great driver and is sound mechanically and electrically. All four windows roll up and down as they should, the turn signals, headlights, tail lights, high beams, brake lights and gauges all work as they should.
The front suspension is completely rebuilt with a PST deluxe kit, including a larger sway bar, stiffer lowering springs and heavy duty shocks. The car handles very good, especially for being an early 60s car. It is fun to drive and can attack corners better than you'd expect. It still rides great, not harsh at all, and is a great cruiser.
The interior has new front seats, new carpet, a great working radio and a new dash cover. All door panels are there and the core of the rear seat is great. The door panels and seats need to be re-covered to look really nice and the car needs a headliner ($101 on rockauto.com).
The body is free from rust, and is close to ready for paint. It needs the final block sanding and it should be ready to go. It is primer black right now, so it does look presentable right now, or if you like the hot rod look, it can stay like this!
The engine is a 221 V8 small block Ford Windsor. It is the same basic engine as a 289, 302 (5.0) so those engines would drop right in (see below). It has a 2 speed Merc-O-Matic transmission. Shifts great, and cruises on the freeway at 70+ mph with no problems. The engine fires right up and still makes good power. Ford 8" differential.
Included with sale is front disc brake conversion kit with master cylinder. Originally $600
The Hoosier tires are included with the sale, keep in mind that they are road racing tires that are barely street legal. If you plan on driving the car daily I'd recommend putting some normal treaded tires on it and keeping these Hoosiers for the autocross days!
The car has a clean title in my name and is currently registered. No surprises.
