Runs great, Car is pretty much all original other than older repaint & inteior redone. Inside even has the original paint on dash which was dark maroon color. If you are looking for a really straight original Merc this is it.
Provenance - This car was formally in the Collection of well know Iowa car collector Ed Norland who past away & his car collection was sold back in 2015. Anyone can go online & find this car & when it sold by simply typing in 1950 Mercury & or Ed Norland car collection. We are only selling the car because my wife can not drive a standard shift & I do not have the time to drive it much. Following is the discription posted in the sale listing & can again be found online.
Automobile, 1950 Mercury 2-Dr Sedan. Dramatic deep burgundy with new deep red pleated cloth interior. Flathead V-8 (255 cu in). Twin tear-drop spotlights, visor, fender skirts and wide white walls. Beautiful & ready for both road and show. Quality example of true 1950 Merc classic cruiser. 26,538 miles. VIN 50DA61487M
As you can see it had 26,538 when I bought it & now has only 26,920 miles which means in over 3 years of owning it I have only drove it less than 400 miles.
When I first bought it I had the hoses & Belts replaced & both water pumps send off & rebuilt & tuned up.Following is any noted issues that I am aware of.Has some scratches to paint ( see photos )Very small minor dings in chrome on thin side strip ( see photo )Passenger side window will need replace ( has cracks )Radio & clock does not work.Interior overhead light is missing lense cover.Paint has a few areas of minor paint lifting ( see photo )Needs new batteryI crawled under the car ( the best I could ) body looks good. This car appears to have been well taken care of over the years & interior of trunk looks great. I even pulled back the side panels on interior of trunk & can see nothing but original steel.
Still 6V,Floor on driver side has one small spot that pops when you put you weight on it, which could be a worn thru spot ( not sure as it's covered over. I did have an electric fuel pump intstalled on the underside of car ( to make it easier to start ) under the driver side floor board, the mechanic never said anything about any issues. The Rest of floors appear to be perfect.I am too Old & too heavy to get under this car but did get under the back end of car & everything looks solid & frame looks very good. I can see no body filler used anywhere on the car, I'm not saying for sure 100 % that there is none but all I can see is factory steel body.Ed Norland was one of the founding members of the Iowa Hot Rod Club & the Club helped Ed's family get all the cars ready for the auction as some had not been driven for a while. I had called over before the auction & talked to one of the members helping & he said it was a good solid car & one of his favorites in the whole auction.I do not believe Ed would have had any cars that where not good solid cars. I believe the car has been well cared for it's whole live & you can tell it's not a junk yard salvaged car.Note - this car is not a show car in it's present state - it's a driver. The worst thing is it may need a new paint job as I don't know if the scratches can be covered up with out repainting it. The few minor issues it has are all cosmetic.
THIS CAR IS SOLD WITH NO RESERVE. BUYER CAN PAY FOR IT WHEN THEY PICK IT UP AFTER THEY DO THEIR OWN INSPECTION.
