Description

It's the late '60s Mercury take on the muscle car and does it ever look good! This 1969 Mercury Cougar convertible wears a great color and shows all the inspired, international touches that set it apart from its counterparts when it was introduced. Even among classics, this car has been unusually well taken care of - not only is it carrying freshly rebuilt power under the hood, but it also comes with an extensive collection of maintenance receipts as proof...of the attentive care it's received. Take a lap around the car and you'll notice right away that, while it sports a thoroughly "muscle car" appearance - complete with its perennial successful long hood/short deck lid configuration - there are some distinct styling cues here that really make this classic stand out. A number of these elements have a European sensibility to them, including the hidden headlights inside a one of a kind front grille, whose prominent slats were changed from their original vertical orientation to horizontal the very year this '69 came out. Spin around to the back and you'll see the tail lights seem to span the entire width below the deck lid. The bright aqua metallic color draped over the exterior matches the original shade and it really looks nice, serving as a great backdrop for the brightwork and badging on this classic. It's one seriously sharp open-air ride, and for those occasions where more shelter is required, there's a power white convertible top on hand for protection and it features a glass rear window that's nearly immune to UV exposure. The interior also sports its original color - Mercury did a really cool job conceiving this color combo - and it's in clean condition. The front buckets have been well restored and show the same form they did when new, with headrests that became the standard this very year. To each side, the door panels look sharp and their woodgrain inserts are a nice added detail. A little lengthier than its Ford relative, the Cougar offers plenty of interior room - your backseat passengers should have no issues getting comfortable. Just above the original steering wheel, an aftermarket gauge pod takes its place on the pillar, working in tandem with the original gauges in the instrument panel. A Vintage Air climate control system has been added to the mix - always a welcome feature, even in a convertible - and teams with the quartet of vents in the dash to keep the interior comfortable. Audio capabilities come via a seamlessly installed AM/FM/CD stereo that pairs with a trunk-mounted changer. Things are looking clean under the hood, where a 351 Windsor sits between the shock towers, sporting a nicely badged, deep blue air cleaner that matches its block and valve covers and is surrounded by fresh, new hoses and neatly routed wires. It was rebuilt only about 5000 miles ago, so it's at the top of its game and runs smoothly as it teams with a 3-speed FMX automatic transmission for a low effort driving experience. A new radiator with an electric fan, as well as a transmission cooler and an entirely new ignition system, have been added to up dependability. This Cougar offers a very nice driving experience - it rides great, with power steering for easy navigation and power brakes for low effort stops. Sure to pull focus wherever it goes, it cruises on a set of 15" American Racing wheels wrapped with Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires. With its magnetic vintage style and strong running condition, this 1969 Lincoln Mercury Cougar convertible is a "must see". Call today!
