1947 Mercury two-door coupe driver! Some refer to this model as a “sedan-coupe” because it does have a back seat. The engine is the correct type of flathead although we cannot verify that it is the original one so it most likely is not. The three speed manual transmission shifts as it should and is quiet. Currently the car will not start, it may need a starter, but it will run, drive, and stop, although the steering is worn and feels a little sloppy.
This is an unrestored, survivor, in mostly original condition. The paint is original and it does show its age. The body is solid with minimal rust considering its age. There is some surface rust underneath and a couple of places on the body that could use some attention but there’s nothing major.
The car has been completely rewired with an American Autowire kit and converted to 12 volts. It has a Power Master “Powergen” alternator.
All of the stainless is in decent condition but the pot metal pieces, the grill, and surround, etc. are pitted.
Dash is in mostly original condition and has the stock speedometer, there is a full set of Autometer gauges behind the stock bezel.
The windshield and its rubber seal are new as is the passenger side glass. We have new glass for the driver’s side and that goes with the car.
