1980 MGB Project Car
Description
Start Summer with an AWEsome NEW PROJECT! This is a beloved 1980 MGB that NEEDS LOVE.
The car was restored professionally about 18 years ago, and has been cared for and enjoyed thoroughly ever since, up until the motor gave up a few years back. For the last 12 years it's been stored inside, and before it quit it was a daily driver.
Here's what it needs, that I know of:
Rear brake cylinder work (leaks on one side)
Interior work
A battery
Body work
Floor pan patching
Here's the story: It vented a piston, which I replaced. It also started the infamous and notorious head gasket leak thing, and I put a new head on it. I bolted the motor together again, adjusted everything and haven't had the time to get it running. The compression is great, there's no leak-down, it has a healthy spark and is getting gas. All I think it needs is a battery and some fresh gas, and if I do that and it's running, I'm going to do some basic cleanup and the price is gonna go up $500.
We moved to the North Shore, and the car is in Dedham, and I forgot to check the mileage, but I'm remembering it to be around 100,000 +, maybe 120K. I'll update the listing as soon as I can get back over there. We have a clean title.
It spent last winter outside with a cover and a tarp on it, and before the winter I put a spankin' new top on it. If I had a place to store it and work on it, I'd restore it myself and drive it for another 10 years, but, well, that's life.
Ready for a fun summer project? With a weekend's work you could have it on the road. With a few month's work you could have it pretty. My loss, your gain.
