1968 MGB GT
Description
When the Pininfarina-designed MGB GT hit the streets in late 1965, it provided all-weather and storage capabilities to the already wildly popular MGB roadster. The car made an immediate impact, and the lines on the GT have aged beautifully. In 1968, full syncromesh was added as well as several other upgrades.
This particular car left Abingdon in Primrose Yellow; at some point in its life it was treated to a full respray in British Racing Green. Coupled with black seats with white piping, chrome wire knock-off wheels, and a Moto-Lita steering wheel there are few more iconic British sports cars than this.
My intent is to represent the car as fairly and as accurately as possible; there is always personal interpretation but as a concours judge I will offer my best assessment of the good, the bad, and the ugly.
The Good:
This car's body is laser straight, with good gaps and alignments. All the chrome and brightwork are near flawless. The interior is in overall fantastic shape, and while not reflected in the pictures I've recently added black/white cocomats from Cocomats.com, setting off the interior theme even more. Rubber Amco mats also included. I had the instrument lighting upgraded with LED bulbs for better night visibility. I replaced the speedometer cable and angle gear drive. (Because the speedo/odo were bad when I got the car I have no idea as to actual mileage.) All signals, flashers, parking lights, headlights, and horn work properly. Battery cutoff installed behind passenger seat. While the car does not have overdrive, a recent 150 mile round trip showed the car to be content at highways speeds, turning about 4700 rpm (redline of 6000) at 70 mph.
Mechanically the car fires immediately, runs well and pulls strong. The clutch is solid and while the motor leaves the occasional drip it appears well-sealed.Fluids all checked, brake circuit tested and brake lines flushed and bled. A Moss Motors A/C system has been added, as well as an aluminum radiator with electric fan. Yes, the A/C works! (It won't run you out of the car like a GM will, but it definitely blows cold.) Electronic ignition from Pertronix eliminates the need to carry a spare button. A wire spare and a "Thor" knock-off hammer with jack reside in the trunk. Tires are in great shape.
The Bad:The paint quality on this vehicle will show well in pictures, and from 10 feet away. There are a couple of bubbles on the rear deck adjoining the window I've attempted to show in the pictures. It is excellent driver quality paint; it has a few things to pick at but candidly is way too good to do anything about. The only knocks on the interior are a small dash crack on the lower left side near the switchgear and the mirror mount is modified from a roadster (the original mounts are unattainable.) Lastly while the headliner is in fantastic shape the header and cantrail covers were not installed. Visors and mounting hardware are missing. Map and interior lights do not function.
The Ugly:The only "ugly" I can point to is that apparently when the new interior kit was installed someone used an improper length screw that tried to push out the rear deck. I show this in the pictures.
Summary: Overall a great MGB GT and a lot of fun for the money. I have set a reasonable reserve and opening bid. I'm happy to assist with meeting your shipper but this is local pick up only. My local shop will take a call to offer their unfettered opinion, or inspections on your dime are welcome. An immediate $500 PayPal deposit is required with wire transfer to follow. Clean Kentucky title in hand.
