Description

Original, unrestored 1963 MGB sportscar. Vin # GHN3L5714 Very hard to find one this rust free and this honest anywhere in the world. The rockers, inner rockers, floors, boo, etc. is all 98 % rust free, solid and original. The very minor rust I have located are pin holes in the original floors... and minor small bubbles in the rockers (pictured) Original interior panels and leather seats in decent condition. top frame is present along with a good tonneau cover. no top material. most of the original rubber mats are present. The car appears to have been repainted (cheaply) some time 30 or so years ago.. once. The car sits on 3 very old bias ply tires.. and 1 modern radial. The tires hold air great and the cars rolls easily. can be easily moved with a tow dolly.
could be made running very easily... but all systems need to be gone through.. no brakes at all.
This car was used as an autocross toy in the 80's and 90's here in northern Illinois. The car was originally a spoke wheel car but the owner converted the car to a solid steel wheel configuration for more reliablilty.. The rear end and entire front suspension was swapped out to do this conversion with a 1966 MGB. Also the 1966 5 main bearing engine was swapped and rebuilt as well. the existing engine # is 18GB37712. The car comes with the original wire wheel complete rear end, front crossmember and front suspension as extra parts.. including 3 original wire wheels. There is actually a full van load of extra used parts.
The car had some sort of issue with the front suspension. The autocrossers son told me that one of the wire wheels collapsed and caused some damage.. There is a crude welded patch inside the engine compartment on the inner fender.. this mishap is probably was caused the suspension swap with the 1966 MGB?
The car comes with freshly rebuilt SU carbs and a clear title.
The car can be cleaned up and used and enjoyed in its present condition (my original plan) But should really be properly and completely restored. It would be an easy and fun restoration. Its really just up to taste if you want to convert it back to wire wheel configuration... Or leave it with its present steel wheel condition. all the needed parts are present minus 1 spoke wheel. The 1966 5 main bearing engine is better than the original 1963 3 main bearing engine. I was told that the autocrosser rebuilt and hopped up this engine.. But I have no supporting paperwork.
I took pictures of the underside... best I could with out a lift. I can email more if needed.
I live about an hour and a half Southwest of Chicago. Car is for sale AS IS/ WHERE IS. you are entirely responsible for all shipping and shipping costs. Also the included parts are extremely heavy (you cannot mail a complete rearend)
I will except all valid payment, as long as im satisfied I've been paid.
The car has a reasonable reserve. The Buy it now price is less than Hagerty estimates a 1963 in "good condition" . you will not be disappointed with this car! Please dont waste my time.
