1951 MG TD/C “Competition”
This car has been in storage for a number of decades and was discovered recently.
The competition model had a higher engine output, twin lever shocks, and a twin feed fuel system with twin pumps. The fuel pumps are long gone but everything else is where it should be. As you will see from the underside of the car its originality is in abundance. A survivor quality car retaining all of its factory characteristics, undercarriage in very nice condition.
All body work is straight for the most part, surface rust only with no major issues, brand new tires just fitted as older items had perished due to age. The interior and gauges are in good condition, but the roof covering will need replacing.
This car was designated US with its “EXL” coding from new, the Competition also received larger valves and carbs as well.
In July 1951 the 1250cc XPAG engine received a new block, a new sump, a new bell-housing and a new flywheel in order to accommodate a larger clutch. The engine number prefix was changed to TD2, and MG TDs fitted with this engine have subsequently become known as TD2 models, although contemporary marketing materials did not use this designation. The changeover occurred at engine number XPAG/TD2/9408. The engine number of this Competition example is indicated as10215on the firewall data plate, however the brass plate on the engine is long gone.
