Description

1969 MGC Convertible

This is one outstanding automobile ! It has been treated to a very thorough, ground up, nut and bolt, rotisserie restoration. Just recently completed. The MGC is one of the most iconic and desirable British sports cars ever built. This is a factory built inline 6 cylinder version of the classic, much loved MGB. They were only produced in very limited numbers, in 1968 and 1969. This car has been verified by the prestigious British Motor Industry Heritage Trust organization, as being authentic, with matching engine, transmission, and chassis numbers, and having the original correct colors and options. The certified document will be provided with the car.

There were only 1757 of these British roadsters made in 1969, and of those, only about 900 were left hand versions imported to the U.S. Only a few remain, and very, very few are in this better than new, totally restored condition.

When driving this competent and entertaining car, you can't help but have a big smile on your face. The sounds, the smells, and the feel of this open air MGC, are really hard to beat. It is totally ready to go on a good, long road trip, or a quick run out to dinner. It takes you back to a time when things were simpler and not burdened by so many government regulations. Carswere better looking, each one unique and offering different options and styling every year.

The MGC is a very different car than the MGB that it is based on, and resembles. The only outside difference being the aluminum hood with the horizontal and teardrop bulges,and the larger 15" wheels. Under the skin, however, it's been transformed with the smooth, torquey 150 h.p. inline 6 cyl. engine that replaced the 92 h.p. 4cyl. The engine bay and transmission tunnel were enlarged for the larger 7 main bearing, solid lifter cam engine and bigger trans. Also, adjustable torsion bars replace the coil springs up front to save space, and to set the ride height.

The all new redesigned front suspension now features modern tube shocks in place of the old lever arm types. This more powerful engine comes mated to an all new, all synchro, close ratio 4 speed manual trans, with overdrive in 3rd and 4th gears. It provides relaxed cruising at highway speeds.

The performance of the MGC is very energetic, but not busy, or overworked. Although not fast compared to modern sports cars, it is still plenty quick, and fast enough to keep up with today's traffic. It can hold it's own against similar 60's cars of its era : the Sunbeam Tiger, the Austin Healey 3000, and the Triumph TR-6. The MGC is much rarer than any of these cars, though.

**** Virtually everything on this great machine has been replaced with new, or been rebuilt.

Some significant UPGRADES have been made, such as :

++ Braking system has been re-engineered with bigger 4 piston disc brake calilpers in front,manual Wilwood dual reservoir, dual circuit master cylinder, and manually adjustable Wilwood front/rear bias proportioning valve.

++ All brake lines and fuel lines have been replacedwith custom copper alloy lines, and flexible mesh stainless steel. ( Same material that Porsche, Aston Martin, and Mercedes use. Will not rust.)

++ All rubber suspension bushings replaced with SuperPro polyurethane units. ( much tighter handling, more durable)

++ Lightened and trued flywheel (more responsive engine)

++ Milled cylinder head, and hardened valve seats installed ( more compression, and better for unleaded gas)

++ Insulated and carpeted trunk.(original from factory was only painted)

++ New Electronic distributor( looks original, but more accurate, andno ignition points or condensor to replace)

++ Mechanical oil pressure gauge and senderinstalled (removed less reliable electric one)

++ Convertible top - High quality Robbins soft top installed, with zippered rear window. Also, Michelotti top design, newer vintage, folding frame installed...folds tighter and more efficiently, and has a better profile.

++ Singl, modern 12 volt battery installed.( instead of dual 6 volt ones)

++ All nuts and bolts replaced with grade 8, stainless, or new original.

Some of the new parts and work done on this car :

COSMETIC: All NEW :

* Chrome bumpers, headlights, taillights, parking lights

* Stainless steel trim and emblems

* All nuts, bolts, and fasteners

* Dashboard, with new gauges, switches replaced or restored

* Upgraded interior panels, door pulls, window cranks

* Steering wheel restored and rewrapped in leather

* Bucket seats totally redone with new foam, bottoms, and fine leather covers

* Seat belts

* Full length, high quality carpe, with nice MG insignia floor mats

* Custom fitted trunk carpet ( original trunk compt. was only painted)

* Heat and sound insulation( like Dynamat, but thicker and better) was put down before carpet, in every nook and cranny, in both the cockpit and trunk

* Spare tire, knock off hammer, jack

* Outside, rear view mirrors

* Windshield wipers/arms ( All 3 of them !)

* Windshield glass, side glass, and all rubber moldings. Windshield is a Triplex XXX, made on the original Britishtoolin, in England. Superior quality.

BODY:

* Entire car disassembled and placed on a rotating rotisserie.

* Body taken down to bare metal or to original factory primer. All rusty or weak metal was replaced with factory panels, or custom fabricated ones, including:

All NEW: ( both sides, driver and passenger)

* Full length floor panels

* 4 panel sill structure ( basically, the frame, since this car is built on unibody construction- Mg's first.... the MGA is body on frame)

* Drivers side lower front fender

* Drivers side rear quarter panel

* After all metal repairs were done, the entireUNDERBODY was painted and sealed with POR-15 ( a ceramic like rustproofing paint), then epoxy primered. This was followed by spraying with a truck bed liner material. Then, it was painted body color. And finally, clearcoated. (PPG). It looks great. It's quiet, and should last for a long time.

* The UPPERBODY: Taken down to bare metal. Metal and body work completed. Then

professionally painted British Racing Green Metallic (PP, 2016 Jaguar version)

* Also treated with POR-15 : inner fenders, cockpit area, inner floors, and engine bay.

MECHANICAL:

* Engine, transmission, overdrive unit, rear axle were removed and rebuilt with new, quality parts:

ENGINE: totally rebuilt with American and British parts, wherever possible :

( rings, bearings, lifters,gaskets, seals, clutch, pressure plate, t/o bearing, master and slave clutch cylinders, overdrive seals and solenoid, etc....have many,many receipts!)

* Machine work on this engine was done by CD Engines, in Grand Rapids, Michigan..They are well known and highly respected, especially for their work with MG engines. They did the machine work on the "MG guru" John Twist's cars, of University Motors in GrRapids, when he was in business there.

* The engine is painted the correct mint green color, and engine bay is exceptionally clean and organized.

* CYLINDER HEAD: redone with new valves and hardened valve seats, which help with their durability because of the use of unleaded gas. A light skim cut was done to true up the surface.

* CAMSHAFT: was reprofiled to true up to spec., new cam followers ( lifters), new cam bearings

* FLYWHEEL: Lightened and trued ( better balance and quicker throttle response)

* CARBS: Rebuilt, with new high flow air filters.

* Driveshaft U Joints new.

BRAKE SYSTEM:

* All brake and fuel lines have been replaced with copper/nickel lines. Brake and rear axle flex lines are stainless steel. Bigger 4 piston calipers, rotors, and rear brakes installed.

The old, antiquated, and unsafe single reservoir( Lucas), has been improved with a redesigned modern two reservoir system -- one for front brakes, one for rears. The front/rear braking bias is now handled by a manually adjustable, knob controlled valve, next to the master cylinder. These reliable, quality components are made by the well known company: Wilwood. You can adjust exactly when you want the rear brakes to grab in relation to the fronts. Also, by having 2 master cylinder reservoirs, if one system fails, the other one will still work ( front or rear ).

* All new tires.

* Wire Wheels have been sandblasted and powdercoated

* New chrome knockoff spinners.

* Throttle and Choke cable

* Shifter ball, leather boot, trim

* Electronic distributor, spark plugs, wires
