Description

1991 MITSUBISHI FUSO “ROSA” MODEL 4X4 DIESEL BUS

Japanese model, direct import, right hand drive

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_Fuso_Rosa

47,000 miles (76,000 kilometers)

4.2 liter M4D 33U Motor 4-cylinder, 120 HP, 225 lb/ft, direct injection, naturally aspirated, “Jake” brake on intake

Reliable mechanical 4WD system- 5-speed manual gearbox, three-range transfer case with neutral, manual locking hubs.

Solid axles front and rear

22.5 feet long x 6.5feet wide x 9.4 feet high

Curb weight is 8650 pounds.

Dual rear wheels with 7.50R16 12-ply Bridgestone snow tires all around

Currently has seats for 29; 22 fixed seats and 7 jump seats

Heavy duty air conditioning / heating system with ducting and numerous vents along the overheads on both side

Auxiliary Mikuni diesel-fired hydronic heating system with two heater core and fan assemblies under the seats. Also preheats the engine coolant for easy winter starts.

Power steering and brakes, tilt/telescope wheel

Power entrance door, with a throttle pedal interlock so there’s no acceleration if the door is open. (Can be bypassed if required).

24 Volt dual battery system with an inverter for accessories.

Plenty of ceiling lights and speakers, PA system

Removable wheel arch “spats”, to make tire and suspension upgrades easy

Rear hatch gives access to the interior, especially if the rear seats are removed

It always starts right up, has a manual choke/throttle knob for warming up. It drives fine, steers straight, stops quickly, suspension feels tight, and no odd noises or smells.

I haven’t done a rigorous mechanical inspection, only checked the fluids and taken short local drives. You are encouraged to have a good shop check it out before taking it on a long drive. It is sold as is, where is.

All Japanese vehicles receive a comprehensive mechanical and safety inspection every two years, known as the “shyaken”. This bus easily passed its last shyaken before being sold. I know of a Mitsubishi diesel Delica that drove off the RORO boat in Tacoma WA and then straight to Anchorage AK, with only a brief stop at a tire store.

An alignment is suggested, as it’s set up for left-hand traffic, tho you can easily drive it as is. Same goes for the headlights. The clutch pedal is a little slow to return, may benefit from a stronger spring. It has superficial rust here and there but nothing structural. Paint is faded and dull in spots, but generally intact. I was thinking of getting it sprayed in a good quality bed liner.

All of the import documentation is present and accurate, imported by a bonded and licensed business. This bus is totally legal and can be titled and registered in any state. It’s CARB legal in California.

I can arrange shipping to anywhere in the world. The bus is located near Bellingham, Washington, and can go on the Alaska Ferry for any interested parties up north. Can’t be sold in Canada.

Any form of cash is acceptable; financing is not available. Sale is explicitly as is, where is. No claims are made in regard to condition or fitness for use. All that said, it’s a good vehicle and will probably run many hundreds of thousands of miles.

Mitsubishi has been building the FUSO / ROSA bus line since 1960, and you can buy a brand new version of the Fuso 4x4 cab and chassis this bus is built on at any US Mitsubishi Fuso dealer.

You can also buy a brand new 2019 Rosa bus in other countries, though not in 4 wheel drive any more. Mercedes owns the Mitsubishi Fuso truck line, and it appears they have shifted their 4WD marketing to their Sprinter vans.

Here’s a guy in Australia who built an expedition vehicle from scratch, starting with a Rosa/Canter/Fuso 4x4 cab and chassis. Worst case of mission creep you’ve ever seen; he starts by building a carport and re-paving the driveway! But along the way he shares hundreds of pages of mechanical and engineering knowledge, a gold mine of DIY Fuso / Canter info.

These buses have been popular conversion prospects for years in Australia and New Zealand:

Not sure a 4x4 would have helped these guys-
