1991 Mitsubishi 3000GT SL RIPP Supercharged 360HP
Description
This was listed some time back and have reduced the asking price. The car needs to go to someone that can get this car back to where it should be. I have owned this car since 2001 and am the third owner. It is currently just sitting in my garage and would love to see this go to someone that truly appreciates these cars. I will list everything I know but I am sure I will forget some things.
THE GOOD:
* Custom 3.4L stroker engine (stage 5). All forged internals and upgraded camshafts. High flow heads ported and polished.* RIPP Supercharger system (1 of 10 made). Currently set at 6psi but can be higher.* IPT built automatic transmission. All upgraded internals including high stall TQ converter. Rated to handle 450HP.* IPT Shift-O-Matic box. This allows for manual shifting by pushing a button for the appropriate gear.* Last dynoed at 288 wheel HP which is about 360 HP at the crank. I think Torque was 262 but I forget now.* Newer 3sx catback exhaust* Custom made ceramic headers with downpipe and straight pipe (no catalytic converter so its pretty loud).* Custom paint in 2014/2015. Lexus Matador Red Mica. Engine bay and all door jambs professionally painted. Never seen rain or snow. For the cars age, the overall exterior is as close to brand new as you will probably see on these cars.* Also installed are Cianci front and rear widebody fenders. They are subtle but do give the car a more aggressive look.* New OEM interior carpet* Autometer Nexus gauges throughout. Color changing and programmable. All gauges changed including speedometer and tach.
THE NOT SO GOOD:
* Car does not run. Needs a new battery and tires are very old. The front driver side tire is flat.* With a new battery, the car will fire up and run, but it needs some tuning work. Car tends to run rich (strong gas smell at idle).* It has been nearly a year since the car has been started/ran. Last time the car was not shifting as it should. It kept locking into third gear which is failsafe mode. I am honestly not sure why, but most people like manual transmissions and this car may be better suited for a manual swap.* In regards to tuning, The Performance Factory (part of 3SX) had this car last for dyno tuning. They could most likely help. It will take some dyno time to properly get this back to where it should be.* The car is missing various trim pieces. Someone stole my OEM floormats which is irritating, so those are gone. Various outside plastic pieces by the wheel wells are also missing as well as the locking mechanisms for the doors. Nothing extreme overall, but things that will need to be addressed.* The driver seat has a good sized hole in the leather. Really should have the seats completely redone.* Sound system is OEM and doesnt work. Front tweeter spears are missing, but probably not an issue since they were 30 years old.
OVERALL:
The car is still a project car in my opinion but alot is already set. To be honest, if someone were to swap out the auto trans with a manual one, I firmly believe most issues go away. For whatever reason the TCU and ECU dont like to stay in sync and the auto transmission, while it is built for power, has never performed like it should. A manual swap and a little more time on the dyno and you have one very cool car.
If you check out YouTube and search "Supercharged 3000gt" that is posted by The Performance Factory you will see the car on the dyno. Please note the car is FWD and not all wheel. It just happens to be an all wheel dyno that is being used. Also, and it is just the lighting, the car in the video looks a different shade of red. That is the same red as the images on this listing.
Car is located in Northern IL just outside of Rockford. Shipping would be up to the buyer, but I will help how I can.
Originally when this was running I was wanting quite a bit more. While I can understand some thinking my price is still high, from what I have seen these cars have gone up in value over the last few years. This car has all the right parts and just needs a little more to make it a great show car. Not that I am expecting to recoup what I have in this car but for perspective, the paint work alone was $11,000 since it is a tri-coat color.
