Nissan Pao JDM Car
Description
TheNissan Paois aretro-styled three-doorhatchbackmanufactured byNissanfor model years 1989-1991, and originally marketed solely in Japan at theirNissan Cherry Stores.
First announced at theTokyo Motor Showin October 1987, the Pao was available with or without a textilesun roof, only available in 4 colors, and was originally sold by reservation only from January 15 through April 14, 1989. Orders were delivered on a first come-first served basis, with the production run of 51,657 selling out in only 3 months!
Because of its origins at Pike Factory, Nissan's special project group, the Pao — along with theNissan Figaro,Be-1andS-Cargo— are known as Nissan's "Pike cars."
In 2011, noted design critic Phil Patton, writing for the New York Times, called the Pike cars "the height ofpostmodernism"[3]and "unabashedly retro, promiscuously combining elements of theCitroën 2CV,Renault 4, Mini [and]Fiat 500.
The designs of the Pike cars (excepting the Figaro) are usually credited to Naoki Sakai, who also worked for Olympus, where he brought back "the brushed aluminum look". Sakai also helped design Toyota's laterWiLL
cars, which echo the Pike series.
The chassis is straight from a Nissan Micra (so parts are easy to get) and hasrack and pinion
steering,independent suspension
withstruts

andcoil springs
in back. Brakes are discs up front and drums in the rear. It has a clamshell hatch in back, meaning the glass section swings up and the bottom portion opens down to create atailgate
. The compact Pao requires just 14.4ft to turn and delivers up to 51mpg in the city and 79mpg at a steady 37mph. I average about 58 mpg.The tires are 155/SR12 Bridgestone Blizzaks and they're in nearly new condition.
This 1990 Nissan Pao is great fun to drive. It was obviously loved by its prior owners. Overall in excellent condition. Want to get attention at Cars & Coffee? Buy this car. Park it next to a Ferrari and see who gets more attention. Drive down the road and people will take pictures of you. Make friends at the gas station. What I'm trying to say is that just about everyone loves this car and wants to know more about it. Ac works great, the power door locks from the remote work great, the stereo works but is set to Japanese frequencies, the only thing I am not sure of is the cassette player as I don't have any cassettes to test it with. If buy-it-now is used I will include a new water pump, timing belt, PAO book and some other items.
New tires and wheels. Full disclosure, the front tires do rub a little on hard corners and big bumps. If this bothers you I will swap out the pictured wheels for the set of 13 inch wheels that were on the car when I bought it. They are in nice condition but definitely not as nice as the ones on there now.
Not pictured, but included is a Japanese language Navigation unit that is mounted on the dash board. It is of no use in the US but a cool touch when you take it to car shows. Can be easily removed if you don't like it.
A non-refundable $500 deposit is due immediately and full payment is due within 7 days. I can store the car for a reasonable amount of time (discuss with me in advance) if the car is paid for in full. I can also assist your shipper in loading the car if you make arrangements to have it shipped.
Payment to be made (regardless of what is listed in the payment options section of the auction) by cash in person, cashiers check from national bank (ie one I can find locally and cash the check at in person), or by bank wire.
PLEASE NOTE: the vin listed is not the correct VIN. Ebay, in their infinite wisdom, requires a vin to list a car, but won't accept the Japanese vin so I used one from another vehicle.
