Description

Securely sheltered in a garage for most of its life and sporting a clean history report to stand as testimony to never having sustained an accident, this 1986 Nissan 300ZX would be a great acquisition for the automotive enthusiast looking for an '80s icon that would not only be great for weekend excursions, but is perfectly suited for daily driving, as well. At first glance, you can see how this Z's appearance boosted its almost universal popularity. There's no doubt that there were plenty of '80s-era cars with styling very much of their time, but this certainly isn't one of them. Its timeless form looks as good today as it did some 35 years ago. Being a 1986, it benefitted from a redesign that included the addition of skirting along its sides, more flared fenders and trim pieces matching its Light Pewter Metallic body color, as opposed to previous contrasting black. After more than 30 years of life, the paint is still looking very solid and you'll find that some of those maladies afflicting cars of yore are nowhere to be found on this one - the body panels remain well aligned, resulting in doors that open and close very smoothly, and those hidden headlights raise and lower without any issues. Take a closer look and you'll see that even the "Z" emblem on the nose remains impressively sharp and clear. The T-Top configuration is a great plus, affording you the option of open air motoring, or protection from the elements with minimal wind noise when you so choose. Being stowed away in a garage for much of its life certainly has its advantages. The black interior shows a freshness that totally belies this Nissan's age. The highbacked cloth bucket seats show surprisingly little wear, with none of the threadbare patches or splaying you often see through the hip bolsters. This is very much a comfortable driver's environment, with air conditioning that remains in good form to keep you comfortable, a tilt column, cruise control and power locks and windows. Having been sheltered from the sun, the dash area has escaped the ravages of UV exposure, resulting in a dash pad free of tears or warpage, and gauges in the cluster that feature bright red lettering that's still easily readable. The hatchback configuration of the Z makes for a surprising amount of storage space in back and that area looks great here with nice clean carpeting lining the floor, and the factory spare, T-Top covers and spare tire tools securely stowed directly below. Underneath the hood sits a 3.0-liter V6 engine, matched up with an automatic 4-speed overdrive transmission, to result in a car that's fun to drive and yet practical. This generation of Zs feature a markedly better drag coefficient than that of their predecessors at .30, very respectable by even today's standards and a mirror image of that of the more modern 350Z. It's a nimble performer, as well - owners continue to comment appreciatively on a multitude of forums about its handling capability and, with its 4-wheel power disc brakes, it comes to a stop quickly. This 1980's classic sits on a set of 15" stock Nissan "Z" rims, outfitted with Road Hugger GT tires.
