1961 Oldsmobile Dynamic Eighty Eight Bubbletop California Survivor
Description
Here is a rare opportunity to own a low mileage bubbletop car from the 60's era, see picture of the title below. I don't have to go through the whole thing about how rare they are, let alone, one with 60,000 title documented miles being hard to find, because if you are looking at this auction, you know what a find this is. Below is a detailed run down of everything the best of my knowledge.
Exterior: Appears to be about 70% original blue paint. Talk about the perfect patina put on by mother nature, this baby has it. Most of the paint on the roof is baked off perfectly from the San Francisco sun, no holes, just surface. Some idiot spray painted a spot on the hood and primer a spot on the side, but otherwise cool paint all day long. Hood panel top and bottom are very nice. Trunk lid is great on top, surface rust starting underneath, no holes, just starting. Two small spots on the driver's floor pan, no replacement needed, very minor, rest of the pan seems to be very dry and perfect. Driver's quarter panel has been bent at some point, they straightened the metal, and just primered it. Passenger side has had a dent fixed and spotted in, it's cracking out. I do have the quarter trim moulding missing in the pics on the driver's side. Both quarters have the famous rust where the water drains off the roof, see pics, but the inner rear quarters where they meet the floors are perfect. Rockers and frame are solid and very nice. Trunk pan is awesome and rust free inside and out, still has the original mat. Only spot inside the trunk is where the trunk latch brace meets the rear body panel, very minor. Also comes with a trunk full of extra parts, fender skirts, books from 61, extra time, etc. California dry underneath, amazing. Doors are great and shut effortlessly. Passenger window regulator comes off track sometimes, I have a new one that goes with the car. All others are smooth as silk. Bumpers are really straight and nice, just have minor surface rust.
Interior: Previous owner said he replaced the carpet and sound insulation, front seats are in awesome condition, appear to be original going by the miles. Rear seat is pretty nice also, just has a stained spot in the center. Doors panels need a little work, looks like they are unraveling at the bottoms. The dash and the steering wheel I think is just the coolest thing on this car, both are in great shape. Everything on the dash appears to work, gauges and all. Even the cold lamp indicator works. Headliner is original and pretty nice too, not hanging or ripped.
Drivetrain: This baby has the 394 Olds engine and automatic transmission. Engine runs great, smooth, has plenty of power, lifters make noise, they quiet down after driving a little while. Exhaust leaks a little too, can't tell if that is the noise or the lifters. I'm no mechanic at all, I'm a body man, lol. Transmission leaks fluid pretty bad, that will need to be addressed soon. Vehicle has obviously sit for long periods of time, so it will probably need things to be driven on a daily basis. Remember, this is a 57 year old car! Don't get me wrong, I drive this thing back and forth from work and around town occasionally, just don't think I would be brave enough to take out on a trip in it yet. I did however, have Classic Disc Brake Co build a power front disc brake kit for it, all new lines, power booster, slotted rotors, calipers, etc. Not a cheap kit either, $1300 worth. All that has maybe 20 miles on it. New wide white wall tires on painted factory rims and I found some cool Olds beenie hubcaps that I put on there that look period correct. Also had the old generator crap replaced with an alternator for durability. Gas tank has been out, cleaned, painted and put back in. I was on my way to making this thing a dependable daily driver.
In closing, I think you would be hard pressed to find another bubbletop of any kind in this condition for the money, let alone, with these miles. Myself, I would freshen up the drivetrain and cruise this baby as she sits, or, it would be the perfect car to do a high dollar resto because it's all original and all there. Please check my feedback, I have been buying and selling on Ebay since 2002, I'm a straight shooter and have been known to be brutally honest when it comes to description of my vehicles. Please don't assume anything about this car, I'm available for questions anytime, just email, call, or text me, and I will answer any one you may have or shoot you an extra picture of what you need. If you have a feedback score of 10 or less, or maybe a negative one, contact me before bidding or it will be canceled immediately. Sorry, but lately, I have been flogged with deadbeats that won't follow through on sales. A $500 non-refundable deposit is due within 24 hours of auction's end, no exceptions please. With that said, the Olds is for sale locally, so the auction could be ended at anytime. Don't hesitate to make me a offer and end the auction early, a reasonable one please, a man tried to buy the top clip and rear window alone off this car for $5000, so understand I have had 20 of these cars and know what they are worth. I won't give it away, don't need the money, just need the room right now. If it doesn't bring a decent price, I will keep it and fix it myself eventually. Take care and good luck to all.
