Description

1985 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale Brougham / 56k orig miles / 100 pics / never in winter / garage kept / exc. condition You are viewing one of my favorite cars in my collection; a very nice example of a well kept, well equipped & documented 85 Olds Delta 88. It has just over 56,200 original miles (also documented on the title). This is a well equipped, fine example of 80’s luxury, including may options as well as standard features, including...wood applique panels, plush velour interior, deep cut thick carpets & factory floor mats, including the factory embroidered “RB” (for “Royale Brougham”) on the middle seat. It is graced with a full vinyl top, original deep metallic teal blue paint, factory painted pinstriping, bright chrome bumpers and trim, including the optional wire wheel locking discs. Other additional options feature cruise control, working power antenna (along with am/fm/cassette stereo), cold A/C, driver side power seat, passenger side manual recliner, rear defrost, power windows/locks, 3 speed wipers with intermittent control, limited slip differential, and the very smooth 5.0 307 Olds V-8 with 4 speed automatic transmission with overdrive. I have many documents since new, including window sticker (bought new at Zeigler Chevy-Olds, which still exists, about 20 miles south of where I live), factory manuals, several work invoices, and the title documents the mileage as “actual”. I hate to sell this car but I have too many and need to make some room. Exterior: The chrome bumpers and stainless trim are close to perfect. The padded vinyl top is very nice and held up well….not faded or cracked (in fact, I used NO chemical like Armor All or anything else to dress it up)! The gorgeous metallic teal blue paint still retains a nice shine but has some minor checking, as is typical in GM cars from this era. I believe the pictures don’t do the car justice! There is a small area on the drivers side hood where the paint is chipped (see picture). The trunk also has a spot where the CB antenna made a mark. Bumper fillers are original and still in good condition. Body panels are straight, no dings, dents, or scratches to speak of…and does not appear to have had any paint work or bondo repair to my knowledge. Wire hub caps still nice and free of curb rash. There is some cracking on the small, thin rubber-like belt line moldings around the base of the vinyl top (on sides of the car behind rear doors…see pics). Overall exterior is very well preserved and reflects the garage-kept history of the car. Interior : The interior still smells like a new car. No evidence of any smoke smell and certainly no burn holes anywhere. Carpets are clean and free of wear, as factory floor mats have protected the carpets since new. No fading, stains, rips, tears, cracks or holes anywhere. Vinyl dash and door panel armrests are like new…no cracks. Headliner does not sag. The interior is very nice and comfortable….like stepping back in time when you sit behind the wheel. All the power equipment works, although I am unsure about the CB, as I do not know how it operates. Underneath: The undercarriage is almost unbelievable considering this car is from the Northeast. Obviously you can see from the pictures it probably never saw salt / winter weather. It is like new underneath. If someone wanted to detail the undercarriage, they could probably show the car with mirrors underneath with minimal effort. Mechanical: It is apparent from the prior owner it was very well cared for. I bought the car from a local estate a little over a year ago as part of my “revolving collection” and have since performed the following: - Fresh fluids, including the following: o rear end limited slip fluid o transmission fluid flush/filter o coolant flush, including re-cored radiator and thermostat o oil/filter - Radiator re-cored - Replaced pinion seal - Replaced rear wheel cylinders - Re-packed front wheel bearings - Replaced air filter - Replaced fuel filter - Rebuilt alternator - Thermostat - Safety/driveability inspection - New shift solenoid in transmission at time of fluid/filter change - New OEM exhaust (everything after catalytic converter) including muffler and resonator I would not hesitate to drive this car anywhere. I am unsure how old the tires are, but they appear to be in good condition, as I did not see evidence of any dry rot…..and they hold the road well and are smooth at highway speeds. The Olds 307 coupled with the Turbo-Hydramatic 200-4r transmission power this heavy car well, and gives up to a respectable 24 MPG on the highway (see window sticker). Both the engine and transmission are smooth and drive like new. No significant leaks to speak of, if any. Steering is straight and brakes are smooth. A/C still blows cold and retains the old R-12 freon. Overall: If you are looking for a great example of the last of the traditional full size Oldsmobile’s, this one’s for you. The car is beautiful and ready to be driven and shown. This car is so nice, that most people selling on eBay might say the car is “perfect” or “flawless”. The average person may describe it as such-- but for a car collector, there’s never anything 100% perfect unless it was restored. As such, this car was never restored and has over 56,200 miles and has some trivial flaws. I have sold numerous cars on eBay and in all situations I had positive feedback. If you get the winning bid and are not completely satisfied upon your physical inspection (prior to purchase), you can walk away from the vehicle, less $75 of your deposit (to pay for the cost of having to relist on eBay).
