1966 Oldsmobile 4 4 2Hardtop Coupe{For restoration/donor car/parts car}
This is a unique opportunity when it comes to the classic muscle cars of the sixties. Here is a 1966 Oldsmobile Cutlass 4 4 2 that is suitable for a complete restoration or will serve well as a donor car or perhaps for parts only. Please read this entire description as we will try to accurately present this car with no intentional misrepresentations. Here is the information on the car:
Origin Of The Vehicle: I live in the northwest corner of the state of Alabama and this car was purchased from the previous owner who lives 60 miles from me. I do not know the history of the car as to its origin, prior ownership or location where it was sold new other than a 1989 Owner Registration where it was registered in a neighboring Alabama county by a previous owner (the car may have been a southern car its entire life).
Authenticity: There are several significant signs that verify the accuracy of the car and how pure it has remained since the date of its production. Other than the repaint to a white color the patina on the car is all period correct and shows signs of the original blue exterior color. The factory fender scoops (unique to the 1966 4 4 2 cars are both still present; the location where the 4 4 2 emblems would have been mounted is clearly defined (looks like the white paint was put on without removing any trim); and the firewall trim tag indicates the car had the 5VY option list which is the true 4 4 2 identification.
One of the real special things about this car is the"Build Sheet" as it is called in the collectible car circles is included with the sale. Car manufacturers would print the data about a car on a small paper note card and attach it to the car in various locations (under the rear seat, inside the door panel, etc.). A car owner is lucky to find that piece of paper since they normally deteriorate or are misplaced. That card was located in this car and will be included with the sale. The data includes the option list and the model identification along with other numbers that only Oldsmobile would have known.
Option List: This car was truly loaded with an excellent list of very desirable options. When Oldsmobile built this sports car all of the appropriate "goodies" were added like automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, power antenna, etc. plus the extremely RARE option of Cruise Control was installed on this car.
Condition: It is not our intention to present this car as a running, driving car that is a daily driver or a car that would require only minor cosmetic restoration. The car has been in storage a long time and no attempt has been made to even start the engine or drive the car.
Overall the body is in fair condition. Most of the body panels have rust (lower quarter panels, windshield track, core support, floor pans, trunk pans, etc.). The frame appears to be solid and the fenders have minimal rust in the lower sections. After market replacement panels are available if the new owner chooses to restore this car. Amazingly, the doors are really tight and open & shut very well forming good body lines.
The photos show what is included with this sale. There is no hood, bumpers, grill, dash, bucket seats, air conditioner compressor, wiper motor or brake booster. One photo shows a group of trim pieces which are included. The glass appears to be original and in good condition with the exception of the windshield.
As you can tell from the photos the car will need a complete interior package. The seat covers, headliner, carpet, door panels, etc. will all need to be replaced. The interior of the car includes the two rear seat sections, door panels, arm rests, etc. Missing from the interior are the bucket seats, the dash bezel and the steering column.
Beautiful Colors: The trim tag on the firewall reveals that this car left the factory with the exterior D-D blue Lucerne Mist paint code with a matching blue interior color. The inside of the trunk lid shows the original factory blue color and it is a stunning color when restored.
Drive Train Components: The engine in this car is not the original engine. It is a 455 396021-F block which were used in the 1968 to 1972 Oldsmobile 442 cars. Along with the "F" block, the engine heads are "E" and the exhaust manifolds are "X" and "W" {What are complete 455 engines worth these days?}
The transmission is an automatic (not sure if it was the original one with this car or if it was replaced with the later model engine).
According to the notes provided to me at the sale the rear end is a 3:23 posi-traction axle.
Mileage: The eBay listing requires some information be provide as to the mileage showing on the odometer. Since the dash cluster has been removed there is no way to determine what the mileage reading is for this car. That information is not available on the car or in any of the papers.
Warranty: There is NO warranty implied or stated with this car. It is being sold "As is/Where Is" only. We have made every attempt to accurately describe the vehicle and welcome any prospective buyer to personally inspect the vehicle prior to the sale. We have no way to warrant the engine, body condition, damage, etc. other than to provide great details in this listing.
Transfer Of Ownership: According to the License Commissioner the state of Alabama was not a title state prior to 1975 and no vehicle manufactured prior to that year had official state titles. This vehicle does not have a title and will be sold to the purchaser with a notarized General Bill Of Sale only. No title for this car has ever existed and none can be produced per the governing laws of this state.
Shipping Services: This vehicle is being offered as a local pick up only. Any shipping services used for the delivery of the vehicle must be arranged at the buyer's discretion and expense.
Questions & Bidding: We welcome the opportunity to share additional information with you regarding this car. It is an exciting opportunity to preserve a part of history. Health and age are the only things that prevent me from completing the restoration of this fine automobile. It needs to be in the possession of someone who can give it what it deserves.
Value Items: In addition to the rarity of a 1966 Oldsmobile Cutlass 4 4 2 this sale includes some real "nuggets" for the person who is buying it as a donor or parts car. The valuable items of this sale include the console, the cruise control option, the factory air conditioning system, the power steering system, etc. along with the front fenders which have the original cut outs and scoops indigenous to the 4 4 2 model from 1966. So whether you need a donor car or want to restore a classic car this example would be a great place to begin.
