The previous owner painstakingly built this car and it still stands strong today…inside out and underneath! The car was built using a heavy duty modified convertible frame by Smith’s Restorations and and the body was assembled with hand selected rust free and undamaged body components.
We purchased this fantastic example from a well known collector of Oldsmobile cars and rare parts of over 30 years and stated this while building the car “I’ve had a lot of interest in this project from some of the leading Oldsmobile collectors in the country. It is my version of what would have been a 1967 W-31, which was introduced in 1968. All of the parts to build this car back in the day were available as either RPO options or over-the-counter upgrades. The W-30 package was available as an over-the-counter package in 1967. The W-30 cam and the W-31 cam are one in the same, and the OIA kit will work for both small block and big block cars. So, it was a possibility!”
Finished in a custom mixed Cosmic Blue Pearl, this Old’s finish is great and shows very high quality. A thin red double pinstripe runs the length of the body and breaks up the blue nicely along the beltline. The Red W-30 inner fenders/ wheel wells are correct for this tribute. All the trim is present, complete and finish is excellent. The louvered hood is tastefully done and complements the body. The front and rear chrome bumpers fit is extremely tight and finish is exquisite. The weather-stripping is pliable, with little or no signs of drying, tearing or shrinkage.
Inside, the interior has recently been restored to very high standards, the front bucket seats and the rear bench seat have been refinished with the correct NOS fabric from SMS as so with the matching door panels. The factory seat belts where restored to match the fresh look of the new interior. The factory gauges were restored by R&M restorations in Greenville, SC. They also installed a Sunpro Mini Tach in place of the factory clock, looks like it came from the factory that way! The dash bezel was restored by Chrome Tech USA. They repaired the 44 year-old plastic, re-chromed it and then detail painted it. The radio and heater delete plates were purchased from Red Venom Enterprises. Also included is Vintage heat and air conditioning with aluminum A6 compressor. There is the addition of three SunPro gauges, (batter, water, oil) mounted in the custom center console along with a Secret Audio system with MP3 and USB ports. The original steering wheel is in excellent condition and functions as designed.
This stunning tribute of a 442 is nicely equipped with a Oldsmobile Toranado 425cid V8 engine with w W-30 cam and fed by a 4 barrel carburetor, and custom W-30 OAI (Ram Air) kit, polished valve covers. Power is transferred to the wheels by a Hurst dual-gate shifter and a custom 700R-4 automatic transmission with overdrive, built by Monster Transmissions. Custom factory type chambered exhaust system creates a nice throaty tone. Drivers assist features include power steering, 4 wheel disc brakes and type O, 12 bolt (code TO) 3.91 anti-spin rear differential. The 18-inch Satin-grey Boss 338 wheels with Olds Rocket spinners and Nitto Red Line tires complete the look.
The 4-4-2 was one of the greats. It is one of those cars that has inspired people to clone them and build extremely well done tribute cars based on them such as this gorgeous 1967 Olds. Many agree that the mid to late 60’s were the pinnacle of American car design and performance options, here’s your chance to add one stunning and very high quality Oldsmobile to your collection! GET OUT AND DRIVE!
