1950 Oldsmobile 98 DeLuxe w/ Rocket 303-ci V8
Description
This is a rare one family owned 1950 Oldsmobile 98 DeLuxe Futuramic sedan with original 303-cubic-inch V8 engine. The Oldsmobile 98 was also referred to as the Ninety-Eight and later the Ninety Eight. This Oldsmobile 98, the bigger brother to the Olds 88, shows just over 50,000 miles (currently sitting at 50,069) original miles and is a one family owned vehicle. The engine, called the Oldsmobile Rocket, was a 303-cubic-inch 5.0 Liter V8 engine which had hydraulic lifters, an oversquare bore / stroke ratio, a counterweighted forged crankshaft, aluminum pistons, floating wristpins, and a dual-plane intake manifold. This was truly the first factory hot-rod drag racer which came equipped with a 2-barrel carburetor producing 135 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque, over 33% more power than the popular and widely produced 100 hp Ford Flathead V8. The car is in all original factory condition showing the original Crest Blue paint along with all original factory interior and all other factory original finishes. The car was produced in 1949 and shipped in 1950 being purchased brand new from the Turmell Dealer in Missoula, Montana (still showing the Missoula dealer tag on the rear) and passed down to the current owner, remaining in the family for over 69 years. The car is truly a prize and has been featured in various shows and even showcased as a rare original find on Hemmings Motor News in 2014. The vehicle is in good driving condition and is truly a very rare survivor. The engine is mated to a Hydra-Matic transmission and is paired with front independent coil spring suspension, rear solid axle with leaf springs, and the original white walled spare in the trunk. Also included in the lot is various original pieces of paperwork including service and manual records. The original paint still shows a nice shine overall with nearly no rust with nice chrome front and rear bumpers and grill along with excellent glass and classic three-piece rear windshield. The car still shows the iconic "World" or "Ringed Globe" rear hood emblem, which was adopted in 1949-1950 and the famous sweeping jet hood emblem, both in fine original condition. Truly a rare garage kept and pampered original survivor.
