Description

For sale, a 1986 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Regency. I bought it in August 2015 and had shipped to me from Arizona. It is rust-free with 26,279 original miles and recently replaced tires. I was told that the car is unwrecked with original paint. The engine is a 3.8L, V6. The air-conditioner blows cold. I am the third owner.

I have made several improvements to the car. Because of a leak, I replaced the Steering Gear (Manual and Power Rack & Pinion, worm & Ball Nut and Rack & Piston assemblies). I also replaced the Computer Chip, Electronic Control Module, Crankshaft Position Sensor, Mass Air Flow Sensor, Idle Air Control Valve, Calibrator Prom and Spark Plugs. Even with my up grades, I believe the car should run smoother. My local mechanic said that probably what it needs is more driving. He also said that the occasional hesitation might be the torque converter. I took the car to a transmission specialist, and he said the transmission linked up fine and it wasn't the converter. I don't know.

I have only driven the car about 1200 miles since I got it. 350 of that was in one day to see how the car performed on a trip. The return was at night on an Interstate, and I certainly didn’t feel I was driving a 30-year old car. That being said, I don’t believe the car runs as well as a 3.8L, V6 Oldsmobile is capable of running.

Since owning the car, I have noticed a few other details that I want to mention. The power antenna is up but doesn’t work, clock works but doesn’t keep time properly, the headliner has been replaced (good job although they didn’t do the visors and posts), the passenger windshield wiper seems to want to work but doesn’t and the driver’s window is unplugged. There are a couple of door dings.

My starting bid is with no reserve. You can see and drive the car locally. I hope you will. Please ask questions. I will answer as best I can. I am selling the car as is. The winning bidder can pick up the car or arrange for shipping. I have the title in hand. Immediate deposit of $500 is required from the successful bidder by PayPal. The balance is due within 48 hours by wire transfer or certified check/money order.

In summary, this is a shiny, original paint, unwrecked, 30 years old Oldsmobile with excellent tires that is rust-free with 26,279 miles on it and doesn’t run as smoothly as I think it should. That being said, this is a nice looking old car.
