1947 Kurtis-Kraft Midget Racer, Ford 2.0 4 Cyl, 98% complete! Classic Sprint Car
Description
AS STATED ABOVE THIS 1947 KURTIS-KRAFT MIDGET RACER IS BEING SOLD BY US, MAIN STREET MOTORS, FOR ONE OF OUR CUSTOMERS. THE CAR IS BEING SOLD WITH A BILL-OF-SALE AND WAS A PROJECT THAT HIS FATHER WAS DOING, PREPPING IT FOR ACTUAL RACING. HIS DAD, WE WILL CALL HIM AL, WAS STILL ACTIVELY RACING SPRINT CARS PRIOR TO HIS DEATH AT 86 YEARS OF AGE. HE SHARED WITH ME ONE DAY THAT WHEN HE TURNED 90 HE WOULD DROP OUT OF RACING THOSE 350 CHEVY ENGINED SPRINT CARS AND RACE THIS MIDGET WITH THE 4 CYLINDER 2.0 FORD PINTO MOTOR! AL HAD BEEN ACTIVE IN THE EARLY DAYS OF RACING IN CALIFORNIA AND HE KNEW HOW TO PUT A CAR TOGETHER AND SO ENJOYED WORKING ON THEM, RESTORING MANY CARS AND RACING CARS! THIS CAR IS SO NEAR TO BEING COMPLETED BUT THAT WILL BE THE NEXT OWNERS RESPONSIBILTY. HIS SON TOLD US THAT HIS DAD HAD OVERHAULED THE MOTOR BUT IT HAS NEVER BEEN FIRED UP. IT NEEDS FLUID ADDED AND JUST A DAY OR TWO IN FINAL ASSEMBLY AND IT WOULD BE READY TO GO. WE HAVE HAD IT ON DISPLAY RIGHT HERE ON OUR SHOWROOM FLOOR NEXT TO THIS 1937CORD 812CONVERTIBLE COUPE (NOT FOR SALE) AND THINK THE TWO CARS JUST LOOK AWFUL GOOD TOGETHER. NO TITLE EXISTS FOR THIS CAR AS IT WAS BUILT TO BE A RACE CAR BACK IN THE DAY. IT IS AVERY COMPLETE RACE CAR WITH THE IN OR OUT GEAR BOX AND ASPRINT CAR TYPERACING REAR END. ALL OF THE OTHER COMPONENTS WEREGATHERED UP BYAL FOR THE CAR. SOME OF THE BODY IS METALBUT MOST OF IT IS FIBERGLASS. SOME PIECES ARE ORIGINAL AND SOME ARE AFTERMARKET PIECES. AGAIN WE DO NOT CLAIM TO HAVE MUCH KNOWLEDGE ON THESE COOL MIDGET RACE CARS BUT THE WORKMANSHIP TO BRING IT BACK TO IT'S CURRENT STATE IS BEAUTIFUL! WE HAVE TAKEN MANY PICTURES AND HOPE THAT THEY WILL ANSWER MANY OF YOUR QUESTIONS BUT PLEASE FEEL FREE TO EMAIL US OR CALL US AT 541-426-2100 IF YOU HAVEANY OTHER QUESTIONS. THE OPENING BIDOF TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS IS THE ONLY RESERVE ONTHIS CAR AS IT WILLBE SOLD TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER WITHOUT ANY OTHER RESERVE. NOT MANY OF THESE EXIST AND THIS ONE IS OVER 98% COMPLETED WITH ALL OF THE HARD WORK ACCOMPLISHED. GOOD LUCK! I wanted to add a couple of frame measurements in the cockpit and four new pictures that I just posted showing the chassis under the seat and the Wilwood brake reservoir the brake lines, fuel tank, shut off valve and lines along with inline electric pump and filter and the battery and how it is all mounted. Beautiful workmanship and again this little machine won't need too much for it to be ready to run! The wheelbase is approximately 78" long and the inside frame measures right at 14" inside to inside in the cockpit and I took a pictureshowing this. The top access into the cockpit is approximately 18" or so. I have a few more pictures for those of you who are seriously interested in the car. April 14, 2017 I have some additional information to add about this car and appreciate receiving all of the questions and pertinent facts pertaining to this listing. Evidently this frame is longer than the original Kurtis-Kraft production models as this wheelbase is as stated 78" approx. and the early production cars were either a 66" wheelbase with some also made that were 72" from center of axle to center of axle. It still may be a Kurtis built frame as later production may have allowed this to have happened and it just has the same looks and appearances of a Kurtis-Kraft build. Thanks to the folks sharing information and again good luck on the auction!
