This particular unit was built in Elkhart, Indiana by a tool and die maker, features lots of details and it was featured in Hot Rod Magazine.
Dressed in destinct purple, this truck’s paint and trim are in excellent order. The windshield is clear and intact while the side glass has been replaced with plexiglass. The Model A’s lights are in great shape, while its bodywork is solid and straight. The truck had its bumpers shaved but it has a removable custom top, a custom bed, a passenger side-mounted spare tire and a custom tonneau cover, all of which are in very good-to-excellent order. It even has a center high-mounted stoplight below the rear window.
Under that vee’d hood is Buick’s 231 CID V-6 buttoned to a Turbo Hydramatic 350 three-speed automatic transmission. Driver convenience features include air-conditioning, power steering, power brakes, heater, cruise control, tilt steering column, power antenna, vanity mirror and map lights.
Inside, the gray interior is in very good order. The bench seat looks great with its two-tone accents, which are repeated on the inner door panels. The contrasting black carpet is in satisfactory order while the headliner is in very good order. Facing the driver is a Grant GT three-spoke steering wheel that is in fine shape. The instrument pane, with its Classic Instrument gauges, l looks excellent and the inner door panels are in better-than-average order. The shift lever is in very good shape and even the glovebox is immaculate. Completing the interior is an AM/FM stereo with a CD player.
In the Model A, the engine was a water-cooled L-head inline 4-cylinder with a displacement of 201 CID. Top speed was around 65 mph. The Model A had a 103.5-inch wheelbase with a final drive ratio of 3.77:1. The transmission was a conventional three-speed sliding gear manual unsynchronized unit with a single speed reverse. The Model A had four-wheel mechanical drum brakes. The 1930 and 1931 models were available with stainless steel radiator cowling and headlamp housings.
The Model A was the first Ford to use the standard set of driver controls with conventional clutch and brake pedals, throttle, and gearshift. Previous Fords used controls that had become uncommon to drivers of other makes. The Model A’s fuel tank was situated in the cowl, between the engine compartment’s fire wall and the dash panel. It had a visual fuel gauge, and the fuel flowed to the carburetor by gravity. A rear-view mirror was optional. In cooler climates, owners could purchase an aftermarket cast iron unit to place over the exhaust manifold to provide heat to the cab. A small door provided adjustment of the amount of hot air entering the cab. The Model A was the first car to have safety glass in the windshield.
While there are many Model As out there, few are similar to this body style and fewer still are painted in show winning purple.
