Conceived as a response to Ford’s Falcon and Dodge’s Dart, the Chevy II (later Nova) took on the compact car role at General Motors’ lowest-price division in the early to mid-1960s, slotting above the Corvair sport coupe and sedan and below the mid-sized Chevelle/Malibu. MotoeXotica Classic Cars is proud to present this beautifully restored factory 1965 Nova Super Sport Coupe. Only 9,100 SS coupe models were made in 1965. This Nova SS had a comprehensive restoration with only 438 miles on the clock since!

Built at GM’s Norwood, Ohio factory, this car left the line during the second week of January 1965. It was ordered with the following options – 283 Turbo-Fire V-8 engine, two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission (code M35), tinted glass, push-button radio, passenger side mirror, seat belts and a rear seat speaker. During 1973, someone swapped the Powerglide for a four-speed manual transmission.

Finished in a rare paint color, Evening Orchid (code P), the car’s paint and trim are in impeccable condition. Its windows are clear and intact, the car’s lights are haze-free and look great. The car’s bumpers fit tightly to the body and show only the most minor of blemishes, its engine bay is very tidy and the battery appears new. Overall, the car’s bodywork is excellent.

Under the hood is the car’s original 283 CID Turbo-Fire V-8 engine with two-barrel carburetor, which is date code correct and breathes via dual exhausts. It is buttoned to the aforementioned four-speed manual. This car rolls on 15-inch Rally wheels wrapped within BFGoodrich Radial T/As. The tires and wheels are in better-than-average condition.

Inside, this Nova was treated to a new and correct black vinyl interior with front buckets and rear bench seats (code 712). The seats, matching carpet and headliner with working dome light are all in excellent order. A three-spoke SS steering wheel faces the driver while the inner door panels and dashboard echo the interior’s theme and are all in fantastic condition. The temperature gauge is inoperable but the glovebox light still works! Completing the interior is a Retrosound AM/FM stereo with auxiliary capability.

The 1965 Chevrolet Chevy II and Nova were updated with cleaner front-end styling courtesy of a fresh full-width grille with new integrated headlight bezels. Parking lights moved down to the deep-section bumper and sedans gained a new roofline. Taillight and backup lights were restyled, as was the rear cove.

The Nova Super Sport came as a Sport Coupe only and had a new brushed-chrome console with floor-mounted four-speed manual transmission or Powerglide automatic. Bucket seats wore textured vinyl trim and the dashboard held ammeter, oil pressure and temperature gauges. For Chevy II enthusiasts, 1965 is best remembered as the year the Chevy II became a muscle car.

Documentation includes a copy of the original owner’s manual.

Two-door competition to this Nova SS in 1965 included Dodge’s Dart GT hardtop, Ford’s Falcon Sprint, Mercury’s Comet Caliente and Plymouth’s Valiant Signet.
