Description

*This may be the most important car we've ever had. *Copied by Ferdinand Porsche and Preston Tucker. *A Major Award Contender at the Best Shows. Being surrounded by cars that most people have only seen in magazines is an everyday occurrence for us. There isn't much we haven't seen, but when this Tatra rolled up, it stopped us in our tracks. Not only does the aerodynamic profile with dorsal fin take your breath away, the superb restoration is flawless. The... Art Deco meets Industrial Age design of the T87 is unique and unexpected in an automobile designed in 1936. The T87 is one of the very first if not the first cars to have an envelope body - fenders integrated with the body and no running boards. The low drag aerodynamic shape allows it to reach 100 mph and deliver over 18 mpg at highway speeds. The novel dorsal fin is a functional stability aid. The T87 is powered by a 3 liter, air cooled, overhead valve, magnesium alloy, V8 engine. The engine is rear mounted and drives through a rear transmission. Ferdinand Porsche was so inspired by the design and was successfully sued for poaching it. It's estimated that less than twelve T87s made it to the US. Several prominent US collectors coveted T87's. One proudly sits among the Bugattis and French curve classics in Peter Mullin's incredible museum. The late California Mille promoter, Martin Swig, was lent one for a European rally and ended up bringing it home. The Lane Museum in Nashville has a Tatra collection that includes a T87. The highest profile owner is Jay Leno who has praised his T87 both in print and in a Jay Leno's Garage TV segment. Our T87 is an exceptional example. It was brought to Fort Lauderdale by a gentleman who divides his time between the Czech Republic and Fort Lauderdale. It has been restored by Ecorra Restorations. Ecorra is based not far from the old Tatra factory in the Czech Republic. They are the acknowledged Tatra restoration experts. The impeccable every-nut-and-bolt restoration is Pebble Beach quality throughout. There isn't a piece of the car that wasn't addressed. The deep metallic silver paint is complemented by an audacious bright red upholstery. Given enough time and budget, most cars can be restored to class-winning condition. Winning a Best of Show award is a whole different level. Judges see lots of high quality restorations. They're looking for something extra in a Best of Show candidate. This Tatra is rare, unique, and unconventional enough to grab attention without being controversial. Most importantly it features technological innovations that make it a credible candidate for a top award. This is a car that will get you invited to the best events. It also has the ability to win awards when it gets there. You will get few opportunities to buy a car of this status. Why mess around with cars that have no chance of winning the big prize, here's a chance be a contender.
