Description

I own a classic car repair/restoration and customs shop. In my spare time, I thought it would be fun to fabricate from scratch a 1960's style Micro car- This is the result.
The drivetrain is very GoKart-like. The powerplant is a new Predator 212cc engine with about 45 minutes of run time. Using a centrifugal clutch, it is very easy to operate and maintain. The little car's frame is .120" wall 1.5"x1.5" box tubing. The sub-structure to the body is 3/4" round and square tubing wrapped neatly in 20GA steel. Has a functioning door with a very neat little latch mechanism and even a working/locking "Hood". The body is of my design as well. The paint is a pleasing aqua that I gave a mild "patina" to. (with minimal body work, the car could be painted professionally and look very nice). The roof is marine vinyl and looks period-correct. The bench seat folds forward to gain easy access to the engine/clutch/ chain.
This car is geared more for pulling steeper hills. With a simple sprocket change, the car could be geared to easily go 35MPH on flat ground. As for now, it'll hold 2 people and drive right up steep driveways. It cruises at about 14MPH and tops out at about 20mph (governor is still factory set on the predator engine at 3400rpm). As for the size inside this "mailbox with wheels"- I am 5'8" and its not too tight inside the car. The turning radius is about 12'. Would be an excellent display/gokart/conversation piece for someone. The whole machine weighs about 150 pounds and would very easily sit in the back of a small truck. It is roughly 44" tall, 40" wide and about 55" long.
Great Christmas Gift
