Description

Here is what I know about the Packard…

Engine:

  • Rebuilt starter, distributor and fuel pump (2014)

  • New plugs (2014)

  • New battery and cable to starter (2014)

  • New ignition switch (2014)

  • New choke spring and cover (2014)

  • New headlights (2014)

Issues: All of the brakes and lines have been gone over and rebuilt, but the brake booster is bad and needs rebuilt/ replaced. As a result, the engine is losing some vacuum. I adjusted the idle to compensate for it for now. There is also a noticeable exhaust manifold leak that needs repaired. This causes a slight ticking sound while it’s idling. The engine runs strong and doesn’t seem to have any blow-by or smoke when it is running. The heater blower motor is not installed right now, but I have it. It’s missing the flexible duct work under the hood for the heater and fresh air. I noticed the car does leak trans fluid and needs a new pan gasket. The car shifts into High and Reverse just fine. The Low selection is not working right now. I’m not sure if it’s because the fluid is low or not. I’ve only driven the car around my neighborhood to test the brakes. I do have an extra radiator and carburetor for the car.

Body:

The quarter panels have been repaired in the past using filler. If you were to reach up under the quarters, you could feel wear they are rusted and need replaced / patched. You couldn’t really make it out in the pictures, but the rear window corners have been repaired in the past as well. There are small amounts of filler in other places, but those are the major areas. The trunk lid has fish eyes in the paint job that you can’t really make out. You can see where the filler webbed over time. The car seems to have an older restoration and its starting to show. The underside of the car needs to be scraped and undercoated. The front passenger side fender is dented in slightly down by the bumper.

I bought the car as a driver / future project. I was going to refurbish the car mechanically to drive for a while and then complete a full restoration. For not being restored, this car looks good and gets a lot of attention. I’m selling the car because my wife and I had a baby and I don’t have time to commit to the car. It’s been stored in my garage since 2014. I’ve described everything I know about the vehicle to the best of my knowledge. The vehicle is being sold “as is” with no implied warranties or guarantees. I’m saying this because the vehicle is 63 years old and I will not be held responsible for any unforeseen issues with the car. If you should have any questions or need additional photos of the car, feel free to contact me. This is a great looking car and an excellent candidate for restoration. Happy Bidding!!
