Description

This series 900, 1932 Packard Light 8 "shovelnose" is a true barn find. The rare shovelnose model was produced in limited numbers only in 1932. It is in great original condition but needs full restoration. We purchased this vehicle from an estate sale. This 1932 Packard, a 1933 Packard sedan, and 62 other early classic cars and parts were stored in a series of barns and empty chicken coops since the 1970's. The previous owner purchased this vehicle and a... 1933 Packard sedan back in the late 1970's with the intention to restore them at some point. we were told by one of the heirs that at one point the governor of Georgia James L. Key ( 1931-1937) purchased these two amazing cars one for his wife and one for himself. We do not have documents to certify this fact. Please read the description below and view the 95 high quality photos prior to bidding. we encourage all interested bidders to have the car inspected in person or have it inspected by a third party before the auction end. if you have any questions, please email: . Please review our (938), 100% positive feedbacks and bid with confidence. we have earned our feedbacks by providing a detailed description for each listing and conducting proper business on ebay for the last 17 years. Here is the vehicle information: Patent number: 558-51 Engine number: 362471 Theft proof firewall number: 167708 Odometer reading: 48,813 Here are some facts about this Packard: 1. All steel body panels including the main shell, door skins, fenders, rumble seat lid, hood, and the running boards are amazingly straight, 100% rust-free, accident-free, and without any body fillers. 2. The vehicle has all correct and original power train. 3. The wood sub-structure is in fair condition especially the doors and sides but the door sills are in poor condition. Therefore, the body has flexed and the doors are hard to close. The body WILL need some new wood. 4. The frame and under-carriage are original, solid, with some surface oxidation. 5.Some of the misc. parts like rear bumper, and interior panels, etc. are missing. what you see in the pictures is what you get. 6. The patent plate on the firewall is missing. However, with the kindness and assistance of one of the Packardinfo. members we were able to locate the original patent number (vehicle number) one stamped on the wood frame for the golf door and one at the bottom of the rumble seat lid ( see photos). 7. The engine was not running at the time of we purchased the car. However, we were assured by one of the heirs (grand daughter) that the previous owner had the engine rebuilt within the last 15 years. Our technician removed the spark plugs and added Marvel Mystery oil into all cylinders and allowed them to soak for 2 days. He tried to turn the engine manually but it was not turning. After further inspection, he concluded that the the starter was hung on the flywheel. We put the transmission in the 3rd gear and we rocked the vehicle back and forth a dozen time. The starter finally disengaged. He installed a new 6V battery, replaced the spark plugs, cleaned the carburetor, cleaned the points, and gravity fed the fuel ( since the fuel tank and lines are dirty). The engine was turning nicely but did not want to start. After several attempts, we hear a loud sound from the exhaust pipe and it started. There were so much junk, acorns, cotton like material ( rats nest in the muffler) that kept the engine from breathing. The engine ran smooths and quiet for about 30 seconds. we stopped the procedure until the oil was changed. The clutch engages. We did not attempt to push the brake pedal down in case it locked one of the drums. The car rolls around nicely for the purpose of loading and unloading. 8. At some point in the past, the previous owner had the intention to convert this coupe to a roadster. In fact, he had attempted to cut some portion of the sheet metal in the back but all parts are still in place and can be repaired. 9. The flat plate windshield is sealed all around and does not flip outwards. However, we have the original windshield frame with the brackets. 10. Some of the original gauges were replaced. we have several original gauges that go with the car. 11. The parts coming with the car are the luggage rack and the brackets, front bumper, some of the floor wood panels, front seat frame bottom panel, rumble seat cushion, and whatever else you see in the photos. We have tried to describe an 86 year old car that has been parked for nearly 40 years. We have provided 95 high quality images. There maybe some deficiencies that may not have been noticed during our inspection. Therefore, the new owner should be understanding about it.
