Description
1936 Packard 120 B Touring Sedan Straight 8 282 cubic inch engine. This is a ground up restoration in exceptional almost perfect original condition and was featured in the Autumn Ed. 1996 Commorant Packard Magazine on its front cover and in a detailed write up. It would be very difficult if not impossible to find another 36 Packard as pristine clean as this car. As a note: It is believed that this car really has a little over 22300 original miles and not 122000 miles on it as the title states. Three different Packard experts and other mechanics that have observed the little wear on the engine and car and have opined that the car could not have as many miles as indicated. It is believed that over 30 years ago the prior buyer erroneously made an assumption that the odometer must have cycled. We will see if we can correct this title error.
The wonderfully balanced, reliable engine is very strong, starts easily and the car drives nicely. The horn works. LOL
The body is very straight and has no rust and and virtually no dents to speak of. Paint is also very nice. The undercarriage is also remarkable clean. Even the original engine compartment skirts are perfect and original. Interior is original and very clean. The white wall bias ply tires are new and look bright. Chrome is bright with only small evidences of any pitting on most of the car.
Many of the parts have been replaced to original new condition such as the original carburetor, the entire brake system, master brake cylinder, brakes lines, all four wheel slave cylinders, axle grease seals, wheel bearings, break pads, clutch, rear pinion seal, transmission seal, oil pan gasket, differential gaskets, new battery, new alternator 8 volt system, spark plugs, points, wires, rotor, distributor cap, tires, oil pan and other gaskets and seals have all been replaced so that the car does not leak oil. Doors, hood, trunk and spare tire compartment open and shut nicely.
All the fluids in the car such as engine, transmission, differential, radiator, and grease joints and gas tank, fuel lines and fuel pump, and oil pump have been flushed and cleaned and refilled with fresh oil, grease, antifreeze and gasoline. Headlights and fog lamps work. Front end king pin bushings and king pins have been replaced. The steering box gear bearings, bushings and gaskets have been replaced. Dash lights and gauges work. all head lamp and tail light bulbs and flasher have been replaced. The positive ground 6 volt system has been upgraded to an 8 volt battery and alternator system which is more reliable and starts the engine easily and allows for brighter lights. If you want to make the engine look factory show room new, I have included the factory original paint for the engine block and head which could easily by painted or touched up in the car. But the engine is clean and runs so smoothly that at times it is difficult to tell that the car is idling.
The entire car has been detailed and is sparkly.
This is a rare find for a 1936 Pre-WWII car and represents what was known as some of the finest technology known for American Luxury Cars in its time.
