Description

Here is a very nice, completely restored one year ago, real 1971 Plymouth Road Runner. It was completely disassembled and all parts that wear were rebuilt or replaced. The car is an original southern car and had little rust. The drivetrain is not the original, the story I got was that the owner in 1978 put a rod through the block and then the car sat in his barn for many years with the broken engine and the transmission gone. I installed another 383 and 727, so it has the same displacement as it did originally. Following is a pretty thorough description, but if you have any questions ask them via email, I will answer promptly.
Body: There were small 2x2" inch rust spots in the passenger lower door and another small 3x1" rust spots at the bottom of the rear quarters. Those areas were cut out and new steel was fitted and butt welded in place. The filler necessary was very minimal, no more than an eight of an inch. The entire exterior was stripped to bare metal and then primed, blocked, primed, blocked, primed and blocked again. The car is straight, really straight. The panel gaps are correct and very uniform. Take a look at the pics to see how nice the body work is. It was painted with four coats of PPG DBC Basecoat and then four coats of PPG DCU 2002 clear. I altered the base formula by reducing the small amount a metallic and adding the same amount of gold pearl. When in bright sunlight it makes the Vitamin C pop just a bit more. The clear was wet sanded to level the peel and then buffed four times, each time with a finer compound and it is super shiny and reflective. The front bumper is original, with very little age showing, straight and a nice shine. The rear bumper is a rechrome, since the original was really peppered, especially above the bazooka exhaust tips. New windshield, the original was foggy around the edges. New belt weatherstrips all around.
Engine: 383 completely rebuilt .030 oversize Ross lightweight piston with Total Seal rings. Clevite bearings, standard size, forged crank. The cam is a Comp grind with a pretty good lope, but it is not doggy on the bottom end. The 906 heads have hardened seats and were mildly ported. A Melling hi-volume, stock pressure, oil pump was installed to insure adequate oil flow.
Transmission: Completely rebuilt 727 Torqueflite with stock valve body and 2500 stall converter. Kevlar lined bands and heavy duty frictions in the clutch packs insure good durabililty.
Brakes: All new everything, shoes, wheel cylinders, lines, hoses and master cylinder. Work great, stops straight.
Interior: New Legendary seat covers, new carpet, new headliner, new quality well fitted dash cap, restored instrument cluster, AM-FM radio, very nice door and quarter interior trim panels.
Trunk: excellent, with new mat, jack and spare, new trunk seal and spare tire/jack decal.
Exhaust: Stock HiPo manifolds and 2.5" dual exhuast, with drone free Raptor Turbo mufflers and correct "bazooka" style tips
Rear Axle: 8.75 with Sure-Grip and 3.55 gears. New pinion seal, new axle bearings and seals. Sure grip works fine.
Tires and wheels: 15" Rallyes with correct color and nice rings and correct 1971 dark argent center caps. Tire have less than 400 miles on them. The tall rear tires, P255/70 R15, help with the 3.55 rear gears on the highway, they keep the rpm down more like 3.23 gears. The front tires are P225/70 R15 and the combination gives a pleasant stance.
Now the legal stuff: I am not a dealer, just a Mopar collector that is running out of space and needs to sell a few cars. Therefore, the car is sold as-is, where-is with no warranty whatsoever. I will require a non-refundable deposit in the amount of $1000.00 via Paypal within 48 hours of auction close. I will not end the auction early for a buy-it-now offer. That would not be fair to bidders that like to wait until the last minute to place their bid. The balance of the purchase price must be paid within seven days of the auction close. Acceptable forms of payment include: cash at pickup, wire transfer, or a cashier's check that has cleared my local bank. The car must be picked up prior to April 7th, since I will be leaving to return to my Michigan summer home at that time.
