1967 Plymouth Barracuda Fastback - CA black plate car

Hey fellow Mopar lovers, first of all,I am not a car dealer, nor do I have extensive knowledge of Mopars other than the fact that I love them and have owned several. I am not evena particularly good mechanic somy mechanical judgments of this car are from a rank amateur.The only reason Iboughtthis Barracuda fastback Formula S is its similarity tothe first new car I bought after collegewhichwas a Formula SfastbackandI really likedtheway it looked, droveand the way it handled.Mine was a four speed and dark blue but I knew it was a car that didn't handle like the otherbloated giganticbuses Detroit was building in thelatesixties that I test drove. The cars I owned previous to the formula S included a Triumph TR3 anda Lotus Elite series one and they handled great and nearly all my cars sincethenhave been cars that handled well (Porsche, Jaguar, Merc, etc)so I know what a car should handle like. For a mid sixties car the performance of the Formula S Barracuda is very good or at least much better than its contemporaries.

All I know about the history of this car is what the seller told me, as you can see its a CA black plate car, so I believe it had one CA owner as I was told. It was a one owner CA car that sold at an estate auction to the fellow who sold it to me. He said he thought it has the original drive train but for the life of me I cannot find a number anywhere on it. Still has the black plates so if you are in CA you can use the plates after an update. I have had the car for about 7 or 8 years but have driven it very little, one of the reasons I am selling it. I have found no sign of rust anywhere, take a look at the pics of the floor and trunk floor, zero rust, I cant even find any sign of bondo altho I have to admit if it went fifty years without getting any damage and bondo I would be surprised. For a fifty year old car the panel gaps look pretty darn good.

The Barracuda Formula Sis equipped from the factory with a 235 hp 280 ft-lbfrom only 273 cubic inches. How? They used a hotter car, a four barrel carb and a dual point ignition. You are lucky enough that someone replaced the dual points with an electronic ignition so the setup is much easier. They usedHD shocks and a heavyfront sway barand more including 10" drum brakes which by the way are all new. Everything from the master cylinder to the shoes, hoses, wheel cylinders, lines, etc, etc, They may take a few miles to bed them in but for drums they do a fantastic job. Download the Car and Driverroad test page in the pics and enlarge to see the specs and get their opinion of the car. Seems they liked it as well, but from a 50 year old perspective, remember that.Other formula S parts I will include IF and ONLY IF the reserve is met will be some adhesive backed elm burl grain vinyl to replace the dash and door inserts, a set of PERIOD red tire stripe porta walls, a Mopar AM radio with a face that does not fit the dash butmight with some cuttingandsome parts to convert it to disc brakes including the spindles, new rotors and new calipers. No brake pads and nothing like a proportioning valve are included since I don't have them.

You also get a full set of 5 brand new 70 series Dunlop SP60 195/70R-14 wide tires on 5 refinished14" very rare Mopar Rallye wheels (only 4 with trim rings and centers)with the 5x4" bolt circle. Rallye wheels are not original to the carnor were they available in 1967 but I think they look great. I do not have the original steel wheels and hub caps that the car probably came with. Lots of other new parts on the car including a new black perforated headliner, new carpet, new front andseatcovers,new 67 Barracuda specific radio antenna, new wheel well trim, all new brakes, fluids, etc, etc. All of the original very rare Formula S emblems and trim are there and in good condition other than maybegiving thema bit of fresh paint to help them out. Paint is good, not great but then again you don't have to worry as much about where its parked. I would suggest taking it to a good detailer for a rubout and wax to make it truly smokin'. By the way, the pics of the upholstery were taken in bright sunlight but are actually quite black, not grey as they appear.

Whats the best parts about this car? First, I will ship it anywhere, you must make all the arrangements but I will do what I can to help. Also, its not perfect, look at the other Barracudas on eBay that are listed for forty, fifty or even s ridiculous sixty grand. If you really want a 69 440 poweredbarf green fastback like the one thatsoldatthe recent Las VegasMecum auction for over seventythreegrand and have the money for one then go for it. Now that the E bodies are priced beyond what most of us can afford for a driver collector car what's a Mopar guy to do...? Get an A body, this one, the fastback Barracuda isbeautiful from any angle,the well proportioned split grill to the faux Kamm tail in the bright red paint will attract plenty of attention plus the 235hp and 280 lb-ft of torque combined with the nice exhaust note (unfortunately from some aftermarket glass packs) will keep you entertained and happy if you like attention. The Haggerty guide says only 5555 of these were built and theirvalue guide has four levels, the lowest level of all, a numberfour has this car atabout $12,400. Mind has to be a higher number than a four.Another ugly yellow car with the same specs as mine except it had factory a/c but the paint and trim were either ugly or missing, it was at the 2017 Mecum Denver auction I attended and it wasbid to $12,200 but did not sell. My car made that one look very bad.

Why am I selling it? I have too many cars right now and I need the space so they do not have to sit outside in the brutal Colorado sun. The car may need to be tuned for a lower elevation since I live at 7500 feet, west about 25 miles west of Fort Collins, CO. One thing about having a car transported, there seems to be a lot of vibration involved riding on one of those car carriers so I wouldn't be surprised if a fuse hasn't loosened or a switch lost contact or some such requiring some tweaking when you get it there, wherever there is. Please don't ask the reserve, its over ten grand and under twenty grand, where it should be. Haggerty says they only made 5555 of these Barracuda formula S fastbacks, so it is a relatively rare car which will attract plenty of attention in that brite red color and be relatively comfortable to drive given the flat back bucket seats. The fold down rear seat combined with the fold down trunk panel give you nearly seven feet of straight thru storage, like a pretty station wagon you can put your skis in. Also comes with a very nice rubberized custom cut trunk mat worth $75.

So good luck bidding, you will not find rust on this car, atleast I could not find any anywhere. Look at the pics of the floors and trunk floor/wheel well and inside of the quarters. The carhas a clear Colorado title in my name only with no encumbrances whatsoever.

The car is sold AS IS, WHERE ISwith absolutely, positively no warranty expressed, implied or even hinted at. Lets keep things amiable so don't bid if you don't have the funds available for payment within the specified time allowed. Dealers, its not my first rodeo so coming back and claiming I did not describe the car accurately and you want your money back or try to extort part of it back will just be reported to ebay and my attorney, and my attorney is me.. I will explain once more, I am not a Mopar expert, not a Plymouth Barracuda expert nor even a car expert. I, me, myself, I like the way it drives. If you do not come and drive it yourself before you win the bid (and you are welcome to do so, but it is not licensed to drive on the street nor insured to drive currently so you need to make those arrangements) then the car is yours. Period. If you choose not to pay after winning the bid any and all legal means will be employed to make you do so. So lets be friends and don't bid if you cant pay. PLEASE!!

I will ship over seas and help any way I can with transport, but transport is entirely your responsibility, it is sold as is where is so you will need to make all arrangements to get it where you want it. Since it is not insuredor licensed to drive on the road it will probably be necessary to have a local towing company take the vehicle to the closest town where a large transportercanbe accessed, about ten miles away. This is the buyers responsibility to pay for the tow.
