1969 Plymouth Road Runner (RM23H9G247xxx) 440c.i. HP 6-pack (was factory 383c.i.) Real Road Runner, 727 automatic, factory special order Bahama Yellow car (code 99), original fender tag, black vinyl top, black interior, power steering, front disc brakes, 8 ¾ rear end with 3.91 posi-traction, factory thumbwheel AM radio, factory tachometer, black lift-off 6-pack fiber glass hood, dual exhaust with factory chrome tips and 15” black steel wheels.
I just finished up a light restoration on this fine 1969 Road Runner including: show car wet sanding/buffing, new carpet, door panels, arm rest pads/bases, door handles, dash wiring harness, engine wiring harness, dash gauge cluster, heater box/core, electronic distributor, ECU box, rear shocks, master cylinder, restored factory a.m. radio, coil, temp sender, plugs/oil, fuel sending unit and much more! The previous owner over the last several years has had work done on the engine bay (with many restored original items), rebuilt date coded 1969 440 HP engine, 6-pack set-up, 6-pack air cleaner, wheels and tires, full exhaust/tips, interior work, suspension work, and I just checked over the entire car and this Road Runner looks, runs and drives beautiful! This fine Road Runner is an excellent all purpose car for shows, cruises and cruising! Although not a 100 point concourse car… it will certainly garner respect and hold it’s own at any show. I would consider the Road Runner a nice driver that you can take anywhere and yet has incredible performance that will plant you in the seat! It has had the hood, engine set-up and wheels added to look like the factory A12 Road Runners! The previous owner has owned it for more than 20 years and it was always extremely well cared for!!!
I typically restore or finish around 10 Mopars a year and have been working on them for more than 30 years and I do everyone as they were my own to keep. I put a lot of time, effort, pride and money in the cars that I offer for sale which is evident when viewing one of my cars compared to others for sale. This is one of the few cars you can view in person and say that it is actually nicer than the photos.
Please call 412- 496- 1439 with any questions. Thanks!
PAINT, BODY AND FRAME
The body and paint is very straight and in excellent shape. All of the Road Runner’s body numbers match on the radiator support, trunk lip, fender tag and the VIN tag authenticating that it is a REAL Road Runner! The Road Runner is a real factory special order Bahama Yellow car (code 99). The Road Runner has one of the nicest original bodies that I’ve seen in awhile! The quarter’s, trunk floor/extensions, floor boards, doors and trunk lid are all in great shape and appear to be original. The driver’s side front fender is fiberglass which I’m usually not crazy about but this is one of the best I’ve seen. I don’t think you would notice if you weren’t made aware of it. Someone spent a lot of time on it and was on the car before the previous owner purchased it. The frame is in excellent shape as well as the undercarriage is clean and neat with no rust (you can even see some of the factory EL5 Bahama Yellow paint in several different area’s on the underside). The body paint was done over 20 years ago and still looks incredible! There are only a few very small flaws in the paint. Both doors have a very small pencil eraser size blister on the lower forward corner at the very bottom (shown in pics). The engine bay has a few areas where the paint is lifting but still shows well! These have been there for years and are not an issue. The bottoms of the quarters, wheel well lips, doors and trunk lip are very nice and clean and not full of filler like most! Some factory paint markings are also visible on the LH torsion bar and rear end. The factory drain plugs in the trunk extensions are perfect. The door latches and door strikers were cleaned and polished. I had the door panels off and have taken pictures of the insides as they are absolutely immaculate! The super high-gloss base coat/clear coat paint was just professionally wet sanded by hand with 2000, 2500 and 3000 to achieve a high caliber ultra finish. This long process alone took over 50 hours and the finish shows it! I would say the paint is a strong 8 out of 10. I am also very picky and critical, as well as honest. The fiberglass 6-pack lift-off hood is a new reproduction one so it has the threads in the rear if you would want to add hood hinges.
GLASS, CHROME AND TRIM
The glass appears to be original factory glass, in excellent condition and only the front windshield was replaced with new PPG glass. There are only a few very small marks on the side glass and is in extremely nice condition. The rear bumper was re-chromed years ago and looks excellent. The front bumper may be an original one it is good for a driver but if you want to show the show more I would have it replaced or re-chromed. The door handles (inside/outside) are brand new. The trim is clean and was polished for optimum shine. The original wing vent window chrome is very nice with only a few minor marks. The front grill and rear taillights are super clean originals and very nice. The black vinyl top is in excellent condition and was replaced several years ago.
INTERIOR
The interior is in very nice condition and looks great! The Road Runner has had the seat covers front/back and carpet done several years ago and are very nice. It has brand new Legendary door panels, chrome arm rest bezels and black arm rest pads. The dash pad is also in very nice shape. The switch panel, gauge cluster and circuit board have just been disassembled, cleaned and restored. All the factory gauges now work and look excellent! The factory tach is also in working condition. There are two Auto-meter gauges added for accuracy and they are the oil psi and water temp located just below the ash tray. The factory thumb wheel radio was cleaned and checked and it works very good but you have to move the dail with the buttons for tunning. All the dash lighting, four-way flashers, wipers, headlights, and license plate light work great. Also the fan motor, defrosters, cigar lighter, map light, dome light, beep-beep horn and E-brake all have been checked/cleaned/adjusted and work great. The heater box was also cleaned and all cables work as should and a new heater core was just installed. The entire dash harness was removed, cleaned and checked over all connections, fuses and bulkhead.
DRIVE TRAIN
The strong running 1969 440 6-pack HP motor makes excellent power and runs absolutely awesome! This engine runs extremely smooth and very easy to drive in any given traffic condition. The HP440 was rebuilt several years ago with many of the best parts on the market (around 1k miles since rebuild). The motor has a Comp. hydraulic cam(have specs card) and lifters, rebuilt original heads with mild porting, hardened seats, springs, valve job and resurfaced heads, push rods, Harland Sharp roller rockers, Cloyes double roller timing chain, head gaskets, Sealed Power pistons and rings, Melling oil pump, Milodon 8qt pan, Clevite bearings and much more! I run Brad Penn High Performance oil because it already has the high levels of Zinc in the oil no additives needed! The casting date on the engine block is 11-15-68. The numbers of the top ID surface by the distributor are E 440 HP (E=1969 motor HP). The 6-pack carb’s are rebuilt factory ones with a manual choke and a factory Mopar cast-iron intake casting date 10-21-69. It is topped off with an original factory Mopar 6-pack air cleaner. The timing is set at a total advance at 38 degrees at 2,700 RPM which is great for drivability and performance. It maintains a 16 degree initial timing so it has a very nice idle and sounds absolutely awesome!!!
The 727 transmission shifts excellent and is an absolute blast to drive! It was rebuilt at the same time as the motor and has a TCI converter, SFI flexplate and Cheetah valve body. The Road Runner has a restored and nicely painted 8 ¾ rear-end with a posi 3.91 ring and pinion (489 case) and the good sealed green bearings on the axles. The Road Runner has excellent drivability and cools well even in stop and go traffic.

CLOSING
You won’t be disappointed with this awesome Road Runner! It’s a very sharp looking car, in beautiful condition and ready to drive and enjoy. I would consider the Road Runner a nicer driver type car and maybe some occasional car shows. I’ve been restoring Mopars for more than 30 years and take a lot of time and pride in my work. I do most of my work in house from top to bottom!
